This wasn't just a win, it was an ass-kicking. Yeah, they cut it to 9 or so, but the game was never in doubt and we simply manhandled a very good team tonight. We outrebounded one of the best rebounding teams in the B1G by 18, 46-28! And we held them to 38% shooting, including 26% from three, which Coach Pike said was a priority after they lit us up from deep in Champaign - great coaching game plan and great execution to do that.

I'd say a huge part of our success was due to the maturation of Cliff Omoruyi, who played Kofi mostly straight up (with double downs at times) and held his own: CO with 15/13/2 blocks vs. Kofi with 20/10 - that's a huge "win" for RU, as it allowed the rest of our defenders to deny and close out on their shooters, such that most of their treys were contested and they missed a ton of them. Great team defense to do that with 9 steals, including another 4 for DPOY Caleb McConnell.

And our offense was pretty damn good too shooting 48%, including a decent 33% from downtown. The starters with 16 (RHJ), 15 (CO), 13 (PM), 11 (CC) and 7 (GB) and PM had 7 assists, while Geo had 5 - talk about sharing the ball. And Reiber and Hyatt gave very good minutes and scored a few, while Miller and Agee didn't hurt us out there (surprised Mag didn't play more though). Again, great team win and let's not forget us - the fans were off the charts tonight with a sustained cacophony of noise that clearly energized our guys and made communications difficult for them. Was not particularly happy with the reffing in the 2nd half, though, especially when it got to a 10-3 disparity that kept them in the ball game - what the hell does Harper need to do to get a call when he's driving?

As Katz just said, not only are we in at this point, but we're now a serious contender for the B1G title - who'da thunk that 2 weeks ago? Assuming Ron will be ok with the finger issue (maybe a week off needed? let's hope not more) and assuming we keep playing well it's going to be fun last 5 games. Glad I made our trip to visit my dad in FL for mid-March, leaving things open for going to the NCAAs later in March...

I sprinted to delete my game post when it looked like we were about to implode, but since we won, I’ll repost it here: “We are taking them to the woodshed, and I want more wood.”

National Championship / Final Four is a realistic goal for this team pending Ron news
At some point, beating 4 top 15 teams in a row can be viewed as not just a hot streak, but what teams need to be able to do to make it to the Final Four - not saying we're going to do that, but it's no longer just a pipe dream, IMO.

To be fair, I've been saying for 2 weeks we could content for the B1G title, that other great beats anyone elses best because of our length and defensive tenacity. Am I at all surprised, yes of course. Am I shocked, not at all.

And what a great game!!
Nice write up.

Same here and thanks - I've been pretty optimistic since the Purdue win, which put us all on notice that we really did have a good team, but it took until Paul emerged before this 4-game run for us to see what this team could really do and then we did it. Sure I hoped we'd win these 4, but I doubt there were many who truly believed we'd do this - I was thinking 2-2 would be great - wow, just wow, at 4-0! And we know these aren't flukes at all - the only game that we kind of stole was OSU.

not sure if this team will eventually have the depth I think it will catch up to them at some point BUT as I said in my game recap, this four game stretch is exactly what you see a team do in a NCAA tourney run...come from nowhere get hot and get better each game, where it doesnt matter the rankings or the name on the jersey. Rutgers has been better than every opponent they have played in this four game stretch

we outdid them in everything you could think of. We made them look pathetic and they are a good team thats the thing, some may walk away and say they are overrated and not a title contender but they looked bad because we did that to them

Absolutely. People still don't realize, I think, how good this team is playing right now - hottest team in college basketball is not an overstatement.

This is a TEAM. All 5 starters playing their roles. Everyone contributing. Geo and Ron seniors with experience. Paul a matchup nightmare. Cliff elite athlete starting to dominate. Caleb elite defender.

We got 14 transition points and 40 points in the paint. We used to struggle so hard for easy buckets. Now it's routine.

We are going to be extremely tough to deal with in the tournament

Final Four type run is certainly possible and not a pipe dream. This team is for real.

Yep, it's amazing what a true team, on both offense and defense, can accomplish, even if they weren't all top recruits. Nobody is going to want to play us. Nobody - especially the 1 seeds - although I'd rather be a 10/11 (or a 5/6 if we really finish strong) than an 8/9 and have to play a 1 in the 2nd round.
