Don’t know why but the crowd tonight was the worst I’ve seen in years in terms of sustained noise (and I mean prior to the disappointing performance). Kind of a role reversal vs. the early Pike years but the 200 and 300 levels just didn’t have the same juice as the 100s. Hope it turns around for next weekend’s game.

There wasn’t anything to cheer about. Every time we scored the crowd was into it. We scored infrequently

It gets lost in all the typical excitement at the RAC that our students don't actually do a good job of creating organic noise on defense or starting different cheers from low energy situations. They are EXCELLENT at going nuts as a result of defense and scoring plays. Reading the room and reacting is their next level to achieve. Places like Duke and Kansas have an arsenal of situational cheers ready when a lift is needed.

The prior poster is correct. No sustained runs or scoring kept the crowd relatively quiet. No chance for R...U... cheers or going nuts off a seton hall called timeout.

Tough night. Sha is uniquely qualified to understand what is need to win at the RAC. What a gut punch.

The atmosphere was definitely weaker than recent big games, and when it did get loud it wasn’t for long with or without the impact of the on-court action (again, outside of the 100s).

Carino also called it the weakest atmosphere at the RAC for this game since the series restarted, as did the Riot Squad.

Stop. The students job is to show up. It’s not up to them to be this in tune to the intricacies of the game, the team needs to score points and they’ll cheer. It’s not that complicated

Respectfully disagree. It may not be their job, but it would bring another level that Pike's teams need at times. I am not in the slightest blaming the students, they are awesome. The blame falls with the team and staff. Seton Hall played the most aggressive defensive we've seen fron an opponent at the RAC this season. They knew shutting down Cliff and Paul was the key and they were right. SH was content with letting Hyatt and Mag try to beat them.

Not true. Real basketball schools have student fans who who know the time to bring energy is when the team is down. Easy to scream at good plays. Harder to sustain an intensity when team struggles. Our crowd goes into a funk. Seems like me and couple others vocally get into it each possession.

Tonight it did seem flatter than Indiana for sure.

They did get loud when we needed them to. The guys on the floor just gave them nothing to feed off of tonight

stop it....the team was garbage tonight on offense. the crowd was into it when the team was making great defensive stops...there were loud moments and there would have been more down the stretch

but please dont shit on the rac when the team is scoring only 5 points in 9 minutes and is committing 19 turnovers

they scored ****ing 43 points

And we’ve had games where the fans will the team to succeed, which is what makes the RAC so magical. Indiana game had better intensity. Any of the games down the stretch last season had better intensity.

Those games, you can feel it leading up to tip-off and there’s noise somewhere on each possession which spreads. Tonight, the noise didn’t spread, and the crowd was relying on the court action vs. the opposite which is what gives us our usual advantage.

Don’t sit there and throw a tantrum while also saying there would have been more loud moments down the stretch. The stretch already happened.

I dont think the Seton Hall game has the juice anymore..no its probably like the 5th most important game at the RAC this year

It was also the worst performance by far since the series restarted - did he tweet that?

The crowd can’t will the ball into the hoop.

The crowd was into it and get very loud multiple times. Not sure what else you expect when we go for extremely long stretches not scorings fgs and put up a high school score (43 points).

And that’s a fair argument, and the atmosphere would have been better if the team played well. All I’m saying is it wasn’t one of those games like Illinois last year where you walked in and could tell from the start that we weren’t losing at home based on the crowd. On a bad day it might still be a 7/10, just wish we got a little more is all.

Probably because you said it's acceptable for Pike to be soft, which reflects on our players.

Look, you don’t need to get pissy, I’m not attacking you individually as a member of today’s crowd. I’ve had season tickets for years, have been to all of the big games in recent memory, and the crowd today was decidedly more tame. All I did was post an observation and give supporting opinions.

If you think a good RAC crowd should be judged on noise level only when the team is scoring, I think that’s wrong, and if you think this crowd would have had the same energy as the ones late last season, I think that’s wrong too, although it’s admittedly impossible to prove.

I think in some ways the rac crowd is a bit spoiled, we expect to win these games, yet i cannot blame the fans it was an awful game to sit there and feeling of dread at least to me the last 10 minutes thinking we are going to lose this game, i couldnt shake that, i do not think i was alone

It was definitely disappointing as it was happening. I was thinking over the pats game or two that we haven’t been seeing the same scoring droughts as in prior years and unfortunately we did tonight (a few times)

We scored 43 points. It was an awful game to watch, really painful. Players had a rough evening. The crowd was just baffled by the keystone cops like performance

The team cannot play like crap and then expect the crowd to be super noisy

All fans should understand this by now

Not even worth discussing

It is not the crowds fault, and it never Is
the crowds fault

Totally agree with this. Our student section is great and all but is missing something. They don’t seem basketball savvy. No fun chants, etc.

Relax

The team's been good for 3 years (and 1 was Covid with no fans)
Prior to that, it's been 30 years of ineptitude

Polished student sections (Duke, Gonzaga, Michigan State) have years of sustained success, traditions, comraderie, structure, etc.

We're still new at this; during snooze fests like yesterday, it's hard to get the kids amped up
Kudos to them for showing up, showing out, and continuing the tradition of having one of the best student sections in the nation
