Welcome to the Pinstripe bowl

In the current six-year non-CFP bowl cycle which goes through 2025-26 there is “No Repeat” clauses for Big Ten non-CFP bowl games that prohibit consecutive appearances in the same non-CFP bowl game in consecutive seasons.

My guess is win next week and it's the Phoenix Bowl. Lose next week and we revisit Detroit.

Lose to a bad Sparty team next week and we deserve Detroit. Plain and simple.
I would think Detroit would want a 6 win MSU.
Today just ruined it for me and several friends. I just st hope we can get #7 next week and help remove some of this pain.

Been to Detroit last time. It was actually great. Not happening this year. I'll donate $1000 to the offensive players party.

We’re not eligible for pinstripe

It’s actually worse

Here comes Detroit

If we lose to MSU they'd have 6 wins and would be the obvious choice. If we beat MSU, at 7 wins, we're likely clear of it.

Sucks to lose the way we did, but I am not sure this changed much bowl wise.

we are fastly moving down the pecking order with this loss...as Nebraska beating Wisconsin makes them bowl eligible and if Michigan beats Northwestern tonight they are 6-5 and play TOSU next week so they will be 6-6... so if RU wins next week is a 7-5 Rutgers more appealing than a 6-6 Michigan or 6-6 Nebraska?...also Minnesota outcome of PSU TBD but they are within a TD of top 5 team is not a bad loss.. We lose to MSU next week and we will be the least desirable 6-6 team...

detroit is likely picking last right.....those other bowls would love to take MSU over RU because they know that Sparty travels...wouldnt be surprised if its Pinstripe

does someone know the exact order bowls pick

definitely the least attractive whether we are 7-5 or 6-6....big fanbases that will travel especially Nebby who hasnt been to a bowl

To make it worse, the announcers reported that a representative of the Citrus Bowl was at the game. This makes me believe this was essentially a play-in game.
One team made Lemonade for the Citrus..the other thought it was the Circus and did the clown thing.

saw this from a site but dont know if accurate...if it is Michgan State at 6-6 would be gone before Detroit picks UNLESS the Big 10 has more eligible schools than bowls which i dont think will matter given the pac 12 tie ins

This is the expected Big Ten bowl pecking order, but keep in mind that 1) several of the top teams in the expanded 20-team conference will be in the College Football Playoff and 2) there might be a LOT more Big Ten bowl tie-ins and affiliations coming as the season goes on.

One other twist: the former Pac-12 teams - Oregon, UCLA, USC, Washington - will remain eligible for the former Pac-12 bowl ties and affiliations. That means if any of those four aren't in the College Football Playoff, they'll be eligible for the Alamo, Independence, Holiday, LA, Las Vegas, and Sun bowls.

- Cheez-It Citrus Bowl vs SEC
- ReliaQuest Bowl vs SEC
- Duke's Mayo Bowl vs ACC
- Music City Bowl vs SEC
- Pinstripe Bowl vs ACC
- Guaranteed Rate Bowl vs Big 12
- Quick Lane Bowl vs MAC

Maybe Greg will try to freeze the Quick Lane Bowl forgetting they are last anyway.

Assuming Indiana still makes the playoffs, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska will get those top 4 bowls....then you have the last 3 bowls...rutgers is the only other bowl eligible right now assuming Washington and then currently not eligible yet usc/ucla go to the pac 12 bowl tie ins.

Wisconsin at 5-6 has Minnesota next week and need to win. Michigan State needs to beat Rutgers to be bowl eligible.

If Wisky and MSU win, I think along with Minny all 3 are getting bowls over RU.....RU then gets a lesser like Boca Raton...yes Minny gets picked for Quick Lane over RU

Now if MSU beats RU and Wisky loses then I think Guaranteed in Phoenix would pick MSU or Minny which ever the Pinstripe does not pick. I just think Minny is a sexier pick but I suppose there is a shot RU can get to Phoenix over them

If RU wins, MSU is not bowl eligible....and Wisky loses, this is the best case scenario RU cannot go to Pinstripe so they take Minny and RU goes to Guaranteed in Phoenix and Quick Lane Big 10 spot isnt filled

If RU wins and Wisky wins, Wisky probably goes to Pinstripe, then it comes down to Phoenix for Minny/RU and I still think Minny is the lean.

If Indiana does not make the playoffs, then everyone moves one notch down.

I read a 247 Sports bowl projection earlier this morning. Guess who they have going to the Citrus? The Fighting Illini. You know who they project their opponent will be? Alabama. They’re projecting us to the Rate Bowl against Kansas. Meaningful difference to RU in terms of program perception, recruiting perception and public perception. This is the cost of one horrible decision in a nutshell.

Didn’t Minnesota play in the Detroit Bowl last year?

It’s paywall but the possibilities mentioned in this article are Charlotte, Phoenix or Detroit.

You can’t really use conventional logic to determine bowl placement because the most important thing to the bowl committee is ticket sales. The bowl process is suits go into a room and figure out where the teams go bowling.

That’s why Michigan probably deserves the pinstripe bowl, but they’ll likely get a Florida Bowl because they have a powerful brand and will attract fans. SEC Fans will be excited to buy tickets to a bowl game featuring Michigan. Iowa is locked into the other Florida Bowl game that they haven’t played in.

For the same reason, Nebraska also gets picked before us. Minnesota played in the Quick Lane Bowl last year, so unlikely they’ll play in it this year.

Cheez-It Citrus Bowl: Michigan
- ReliaQuest Bowl: Iowa
- Duke's Mayo Bowl: Nebraska or Illinois
- Music City Bowl: Illinois or Nebraska
- Pinstripe Bowl: Wisconsin or Rutgers or Minnesota
- Guaranteed Rate Bowl: Minnesota or Rutgers
- Quick Lane Bowl: Rutgers or MSU

Agree that our best bowl outcome would be with Rutgers and Minnesota winning Saturday. Minnesota played in the Quick Lane Bowl last year and isn’t likely to repeat.

Minnesota plays Black Friday so the bowl picture will be more clear even before our game the next day.
