Rutgers fan coming for game
Awesome, thanks for posting. I just booked my trip last night and was looking for something like this. We are flying in on Thursday, going to the Wild and Maple Leafs game that night, then on Friday we are seeing the Gophers and St. Cloud State hockey game, and then Saturday obviously the Rutgers game, and coming back on Sunday. Looking to check out some breweries and beer bars before and after the games, and that link does a great job of providing options.

Feel for Minnesota and their fans as their Homecoming is 11:00 Central Time. Early day.

Game tickets ordered. Airline tickets purchased. Hoping the T-wolves will be home that Friday night or Saturday night.
On a previous business trip, went to a place called The Blue Door Pub and had their burger specialty, The Juicy Lucy. Get it if you can.

Will be there with two others. Flying in early Friday morning. Plan on hitting up a bunch of the breweries Friday and possibly gopher hockey game at night.

Sounds like there's a good chance my trio will run into yours haha.

I'm looking forward to a Twin Cities trip.

So.....chose US for Homecoming huh? I hope we give them a game to remember! Their very improved esp defensively since Jerry Kill took over and beat Cuse a couple yrs ago.....It won't be easy but this is 1 away game we'll need if we expect to go bowling this season..

Looking at their schedule RU makes the most sense for homecoming. Iowa is two weeks before and Purdue two weeks later. I wouldn't want Iowa and Purdue in November may be a bit too late in the year.

November Homecoming... What could possibly go wrong with that? ;-)

In reality, between the two dates there was at least 1" of snow in Minneapolis every year from '89 to '93 and again in '95. The most was 9". Hasn't happened again up to '14.

Do you have any recommendations for craft beer spots in the area? Is it easy to get around without renting a car? If the schedule works out, we plan on going to a Wild game and a Gophers hockey game in addition to the Rutgers football game, so hopefully we can hit those spots without needing to drive. I was there in fall 2009 and remember hearing talk of expanding the light rail. Has that happened?

Depends on where you are staying. If you are staying in downtown Minneapolis (and even downtown St. Paul to a certain extent) you can get around fine without a car. Light rail has been expanded and that plus Uber plus a cab if you really really need it should be fine.

Gophers Football and Hockey are all located fairly close together near Dinkytown, which is your typical student area, think Easton with a better vibe and edge; Loring Café for instance.

Wild is in St Paul

All are accessible via the Green Line which connects downtown Minneapolis with St. Paul. You can connect with the Blue Line which runs to the airport in downtown Minneapolis.

Thanks for the Juicy Lucy advice. How about other iconic Twin Cities foods?
Is a Friday Night Fish Fry on order? Do folks actually eat Lutefish or is that just something to trip up gullible visitors?

Do not eat the Lutefiske under any circumstances! Walleye fried, grilled, sandwich, on a plate is good.

Wild Rice soup is really good too. Often made with chicken can be either creamy or broth based.

Andrew Zimmern lives in Minnesota and swears by the food and drink and the people. That's good enough for me.

Awesome, it looks like we are in good shape, we got a room at the Days Hotel on University Ave for under $100 a night on Priceline. Seems like Mariucci Arena and TCF Bank Stadium are walking distance, as is Surly Brewing, and there is a green line stop nearby too that will take us to the Wild game. Looking forward to it!

Andrew Zimmerman eats eyeballs and gallbladders, not exactly who I am following for recommendations. However, I have been to Minneapolis quite a few times and have always been happy with the food.

Sounds like you are in good shape. Good spot, but will probably be noisy that weekend.
