What About Hicks?

Did they ever get Rocket out of there? Might be getting crowded...
He could have easily gotten out of there if he had ever figured out where to line up when they called an audible.

Very impressed with your FB acumen.

Do I sense a hint of sarcasm? ;)

We really have little to go on with Mehringer, other than what he did at JMU and what Herman did last year at Houston. So, pretty much everything is speculation at this point.

A few things both teams had in common were that the QB picked up a lot of yards with his feet, multiple RBs were used, and the starting RBs contributed a fair number receptions.

2014 JMU: QB led in rushing attempts/yards, 3 RBs had more than 80 carries, 10 players had at least 11 receptions (7 WRs, 1 TE with 42 receptions, the 2 RBs with highest # of carries).

2015 UH: QB led in rushing attempts/yards, 3 RBs had more than 70 carries, 7 players had at least 10 receptions (4 WRs, 1 TE with 14 receptions, the 2 RBs with highest # of carries)

When Mehringer was co-OC at JMU, he spread the ball around quite a bit among his receivers (13 players with at least 6 receptions), so we might be seeing all the guys in our WR two deep get their opportunities throughout the year. The TE was 2nd on the team in receptions.

Based on that very limited information, I'd imagine that three RBs would see their share of carries and that the primary RBs would be targeted with passes. With just 1 TE and more WRs on the field, the starting RBs would also need to be able pass blockers. I think that all fits with a Martin/Goodwin/Hicks tandem at 1/2/3.

Excited to find out what Mehringer brings to the table.

For comparison:

2015 RU: QB #4 in rushing attempts with net negative yardage (mostly scrambling/sacks), 3 RBs had more than 90 carries, 8 players had at least 11 receptions (4 WR, 3 TE, 1 RB not among the top 3 in carries)

Hicks has had issues with ball control and under Ash that's a no...no for sure...also there is the importance of picking up blocks and being able to catch the ball out of the backfield...I think Hicks is the guy who can be "the Back" and do all those things...also to an earlier post...Peoples was the guy in 2014 ...Martin and Hicks were our guys from late 2014 and all of 2015...so yes, Peoples was passed by...partly due to injury jinx ...partly to having the afforementioed guys step up...

Did you miss Peoples last year?...He was by passed the year before by Hicks and Martin.

Because someone isn't first or 2nd on the 2 Deep the very first day does not mean " DOGHOUSE"...typical Rutgers retort by someone who has been on this board...use some common sense instead of speculations as many of us have done...

I don't like the term doghouse, but my point was that most would agree that he is a better back than Goodwin, so there has to be another reason for him to be behind Goodwin.

FWIW: Hicks is far from being in the doghouse...love how the uninformed make very dumb statements...you will see plenty of Hicks toting the ball.
Perhaps the term "dog-house" is overstating things. But when coach Ash says Hicks "has a long way to go", it sure sounds a lot like Ash is unsatisfied with something about Hicks at the moment.

Now that Peoples is gone, betterkep Hicks. Injuries happen all the time and Martin will need a rest. Goodwin is not a first/ second down back.

Not in the least. I positively meant that which I posted.

How does Hound Pound strike you?BTW I agree with you.

Watching Peoples in the 2014 Ohio State game (maybe his best game) and a couple of other games, he did add a different dynamic and was effective. In the Ohio State game he was 15/83 (5.5 YPC and 2 TDs). The Defensive Coordinator from tOSU in 2014 must have been pretty bad. :grimace:

I see what you did there.
