There is a good chance we never will have what most state universities have. Let's face it, until very recently kids with no family connection to Rutgers did not grow up as fans of the Scarlet Knights. I grew up one town over from College Avenue, and I was one of a very small handful of kids who would wear Rutgers shirts. We got made fun of by fans of other schools, whether or not they had a connection to them. Could you imagine someone living just outside Tuscaloosa being "uncool" because he was a Bama fan?
This has been talked about a zillion times. We all know the reasons, and most of them are logical and sound. They just suck for those of us who love Rutgers University -- and that goes for the school as well as its sports teams.
We will NEVER have what Ole Miss, UT, LSU and those others have. We just have to do the best we can with what we do have and not let the prevailing attitudes make us lose sight of the goal.
