It was stated that Martin would probably play a little vs. Washington but he did not. Will he be back soon? We really need him back. He and Hicks have been good for the last two years.
Did our newbie OC not see the way Hicks was running the ball against the elite University of Washington Defense ? Unreal.
Wash, rinse, repeat...I have no mind of my own!Just speculation.... but Perhaps Hicks has demonstrated a fumbling issue in spring/summer that the coaches are not enamored with? He had a few fumbles last year.. .and had another on Saturday, but was ruled down by contact. Perhaps the staff is putting a high value on ball security and is reluctant to put him out there full time? But then again... why should we rely on the paid coaches personnel decisions based on the hours and hours of practice time they oversee. Us message board posters somehow have the incredible ability to know that the backup QB's will give us a much better chance of moving the ball & winning than the staff picked starter .
Harsh, lets hope other defenses we face aren't as good as Washington.Goodwin is a better athlete, and smarter RB.
However, Hicks is more instinctive, and reacts to punishment better.
the bigger problem is the Offensive line. . . Our Guards are horrible, the Tackles are worse, and the Center is a nice guy that doesn't set the tone.
we've got a relay team of backs, that can't even get to the line of scrimmage without having to fake out three lineman. it's about as bad as it can get.

Yeah. After all it's not like the 3 top RB's last year all averaged 5.4 YPC or better and it's not like 4 of the 5 starters on the OL are back. Oops.
They had a really bad game Saturday as did most units but now the are all horrible? Typical overboard reaction.
They've been horrible for years. . . Where you been?
Right Tackle has been a disaster since Forst. . .
Coach Ash is either not smart, or he's not good. Had he simply watched the tape, it was obvious we needed a JUCO QB, and some JUCO lineman.
Art Forst? Nice guy but he never lived up to what he did as a freshman.
Does pass blocking leave something to be desired? Yes but as run blockers they've proved to be fine even tho teams don't worry about the passing game beating them which makes their job even harder.
Yes, but Coach Ash had this incredibly shallow approach from jump street. . . he tried to run off the lesser players, and it didn't work. Hardly anyone transferred.
but even worse is the mindset. Obviously, the team wasn't in great shape, but even worse, they're not talented. Nor do we have the necessary size, especially in the Trenches.
the obvious answer was two JUCO O-lineman, and one JUCO on defense(especially since the BC kid didn't work out).
increasing competition is the answer, as well as the size.
look this is really simple, Big People beat up on Little People.
on a team with zero playmakers, and no I'm not sure I would say Grant is a featurable playmaker.
we need size in the trenches. Size we simply do not have.
Forst was a disaster at RT. KJ was a guard playing tackle, but he was better than Forst. Which isn't saying much.
You have heard RU makes it tougher than many schools to bring JUCO's in right? You realize he had 2 months to recruit overall and that JUCO's are allowed to sign a month early the same as EE's. If you look at the top JUCO's most were gone by the 1st week of January which means they likely had their decision made some time in December if not earlier.
Jeeze you're all over the place. Now you're comparing basketball recruiting with football where Ash had 2 months to get a class together? How's he doing so far with a full year to work with? Pretty damn good is how.
I know you've been accused of being a PSU guy in the past but I never believed it. Starting to wonder I have to admit if you're going to rip Ash for the '16 class. That's just plain stupid unless you have an agenda.

[eyeroll]Lol. . . incoherent at best.
Btw, I knew Laviano couldn't play last year.
You mean Coach Ash, the guy who grabbed a WR from TCU, and expected him to play QB at Rutgers.
and now that guy has been passed by our 4th stringer from last year, a guy that played essentially one year at QB in High School.
Yeah, I question Coach Ash's player evaluations.

Art Forst? Nice guy and as we in Manasquan know, a great representative of Rutgers, but he never lived up to what he did as a freshman.

I am gonna re-watch the game tonight, but from what I have seen already, the pass blocking problems were due more to assignment/scheme mismatches rather than talent issues. On a couple of plays Nelson has nobody to block and he either does nothing or helps the LG instead of our RG who was getting mauled by WU #11 (who is a beast). That is an easy fix to double team the beast so Laviano has at least 2 seconds to take the snap, read the D, pick a target, set his feet and throw the ball. Also how about using a 2 back gun to help out the line with pass protection. I think the added time afforded by having 2 backs to protect would help Laviano complete passes more than sending out 5 receivers would.
Goodwin to his credit did have a nice catch!! One handed thing of beauty.According to one poster Goodwin is a PLAYMAKER...
Lol
