Thank you to anybody that knows the formula for figuring this out or, if not that, at least the answers.

How do I figure out the TOTAL number of B1G conference games? Gotta be a known formula for these scenarios:
- 14 teams, each plays 8 games (previous)
- 14 teams, each plays 9 games (current)
- 16 teams, each plays 9 games (2025?)

And because you never know what the future holds, what is the total number of games if we bump up to 10 games in conference?
- 16 teams, each plays 10 games
- 18 teams, each plays 10 games
Thanks!

If there are 14 teams and they each play 9 ganes. Wouldn't the total games be (14*9)/2=63 games per year in regular season plus 1 championship game or 64 big ten confenrce games a year.

Isn’t it just (# teams x # conference games per team) / 2)? Each game would be counted twice in the numerator.

So with 14 teams and each playing 9 conference games - (14 x 9) / 2 = 63

The Big Ten's inventory is equal to the number of home games played by each team - including out of conference games. By way of example, RU plays @ Fredo this year. That game will be shown on ACCN.

My guess the number of something like 6.5 home games x 14 or 16 teams.

He asked about BIG conference games. That would be 64 including the championship game as it stands right now.

Let’s not complicate things! 😀. I’m looking for just inventory of conference games.

In the 1983 season, Illinois became the only Big Ten program to beat all 9 Big Ten teams and finish 9-0 in the conference. Rare 9 game season, which a couple of Big Ten teams began to play in 1979-1984, with all programs playing nine games in 1983 and 1984. All teams returned the traditional eight game schedule.

Not a fan of the Illini, but the boys from Champaign-Urbana did accomplish quite of feat in 1983, as the end of the B1G 2 era of late 1960s and 1970s.

So based on the above, here are the number of conference games in these scenarios:
- 14 teams, each plays 9 games (current). 64 games.
- 16 teams, each plays 9 games (2025?). 73 games

And because you never know what the future holds, what is the total number of games if we bump up to 10 games in conference?
- 16 teams, each plays 10 games. 81 games.
- 18 teams, each plays 10 games. 91 games.

When we go to 16 teams at 9 games in conference, eventually there will be a push to 10 conference games to give the networks more high quality inventory (read: to give us more $$).

Hey, everybody gets an extra 10 million to add a 10th game! (I’m just riffing… the conference games go up about 10%, the revenue will go up some comparable amount).
