i know Sadexcuse was, but was any other good program interviewing him, or did we get our favorite thing ever, a "under the radar diamond in the rough"

Beyond him blowing off Sarah, I'm not sure if any others looked at him.

I dont think he would be considered by many to be under the radar or a diamond in the rough. I think it was more a case of not fully ripe yet. I think given another year at OSU, Ash would've been a very hot commodity. He was without a doubt a rising star among coordinators.

Hobbs was on him really quickly too. We went 8 days from firing Flood to Ash's presser.

Simply my own take, but I don't care who did or didn't look at him. The only thing that matters is that Rutgers was able to bring him on as our next HC.

And honestly, if there was anyone who could watch Ash's presser yesterday and not recognize the head coaching upgrade we've gotten in terms of personality, charisma, and energy over what's been here for the last 4 years, then they just weren't paying attention.

We got Coach Ash just before he was gonna bust out and be a hot commodity!

Didn't want another situation like, Oh we just missed out on Mullen, Oh we just missed out on Narduzzi, Oh we just missed out on Herman

We didn't miss out on Narduzzi. We didn't want him.

Ash is exactly what we need. I don't care who else was looking at him. There are very few coaches who are getting courted by multiple schools. Mark Richt is probably the one coach who had a bunch of options. I can't think of one other coach that has been hired that was interviewing with multiple schools and turned them down outside of Frost and Ash. Ironically, Sarahcuse being on the wrong end of the stick both times.

They must not be feeling to good about where that job falls in the coaching spectrum.

Doesn't being part of USA Today article in early November on the 20-30 college assistants most likely to move up to a head coaching job disqualify him as "under the radar"?

Ash was linked to Iowa State when it looked like Paul Rhoads was done, but they pretty quickly went to Matt Campbell from Toledo.

Just to play devil's advocate for a moment....$2 mil a year isn't exactly a 'diamond in the rough'...

I think you guys assume that Ash was interested in ALL open positions but only got interviewed at two. He may never applied to any of the others and had no interest in the other open ones

I think people don't seem to realize the importance of his wife in this decision. She likes the B1G and is familiar with the B1G environment and schools. The transition is probably going to be a little easier staying in conference.

Perhaps, you need to look at it this way. When given the options out there in the College Football landscape, the Ash Family decided Rutgers was exactly the school for them. You do know it is okay to think highly of your school and football team at the same time, right? Well, start working on it Scarlet Knights :-)

Someone posted yesterday that Doreen Ash started following Rutgers twitter sites in mid-November. If so, it certainly looks like they wanted to come here before the opportunity presented itself.

What's funny is the SadExcuse fans that think they dodged a bullet by hiring Babers over Ash. They have a very difficult time coming to terms that Ash pulled out of Sadexcuse job, because his boss, Urban Meyer told him that wasn't where he should be. Now mind you, I think Dino Babers was a very good hire for Sadexcuse, but those fans are pathetic over there.

Oh, and they have a "Rutgers dumpster fire" thread that has over 3,000 posts. And it's comical to say the least. Morons like that old fart Townie still believe we were NEVER rivals. Someone with a brain over there aptly fired back, and I paraphrase, "If we were never rivals then how come there is this thread with over 3,000 posts..." Perfectly stated.
