I knew without all those complex signals that PSU was going to run or throw a quick WR screen pass. Did they run any other plays?

The were demonstrating how to tackle. The defense seemed to tackle just like that which shows they follow the coaching well...

did you not see the movie "angels in the outfield"?

i think its when we think we know their play, only for hackenberg to realize it and complete a pass right down the middle

We've been doing that for the 10 years that I've been watching them. It's a defensive audible to back out of whatever blitz they have called and drop back into coverage.

We did an awful job in the B1G arenas last year with communicating in the middle of that crowd noise. We were disoriented in the OSU game. It was good to see that it was addressed this year. There were 103K fans and the rain to deal with. BTW Stand-up job by Coach Wilson explaining the last TD run through the defense. He said it was on him...true or not he gave a good presser.

So if they were backing out of the blitz then the QB can change the play too so I am not sure how effective this is? Who does this? The captain on defense. At times our defense looked confused when all PSU was doing was throwing a quick pass to the WR with a blocker in front, give it to the RB or toss it to the WR coming around, PSU kept it so simple that our defense was thinking too hard like they were playing chess with Hack out there.

I've seen more than a few teams do it.
Regardless, the D was very confused. Lack of game time experience showed.

We got completely dominated in the trenches so those adjustments didn't really matter much. Hack was much worse than last year. Don't know what happened to him. However, their o line clicked and created good enough space for Barkley to run amok.

Usually we do it when the QB recognizes the blitz is coming and changes the offensive play. So we react by backing out of the blitz because now the D is expecting a run, screen, or quick pass.

I think those signals meant to get out of the way and let a guy run 75 yards untouched into the end zone!!!

It was the warning signal, similar to what the robot did when the Robinson's were in trouble in the show: Lost in Space. Come to think of it, we lost Lynch in space when he ran it up the middle.

exactly. I could have sworn that Hack then called another play right after our guys did this. So embarrassing to see them do this over and over only to have zero effect on the play. Don't think I saw them make one solid play after doing this.

I have to laugh because at first it made me think that we knew exactly what they were going to do and I was pumped. After about the third time I knew we didn't know squat...and it showed.

Second thought...If it was a signal to back up and play the regular defense where our corners are 8-10 yards off the line, it was the perfect signal for the offense to run the quick WR pass with the blocker in front. (Like every other team has done to us for the past 3 years...ugh)
