WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE!??!

I watched the game on DVR because I had dinner plans with the family, so I just finishing watching. I expected to come to the board and see a meltdown about the refereeing. But instead I see a lot of bitching about Free Throw shooting, and encouraging words about how hard our guys played.

BUT WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE ABOUT THE REFS?

THE REFS STOLE THIS FRACKING GAME FROM US TONIGHT.

The phantom offensive foul call on Gettys' putback (4 point swing there), and then the MOST RIDICULOUS NON-CALL I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE WHEN OMORUYI WAS MAULED IN THE PAINT (IN THE ACT OF SHOOTING) AND NO FOUL CALL. Those two calls changed the game entirely.

I'm not usually one to say that refereeing actually changes the game outcome, but tonight, the refs absolutely robbed us of a victory. And please don't tell me our FTs or TOs are the culprits. We shot FTs exactly as we have all year -- poorly -- and we actually turned the ball over less than 10 times tonight. The actual difference tonight was getting royally screwed on those two calls in the critical closing minutes of the game.

Yes, NW took advantage and hit key shots down the stretch. But they wouldn't have been in the position to win the game without these two critical, AWFUL calls.

I will now wait for certain board members to shout me down for criticizing the refs. If you can't see that we got screwed tonight, I don't know what to tell you. We got screwed. To not recognize this is like being a self-loathing New Jerseyan.

Refs always blow calls they're not perfect. Not even close. Of course, the Gettys call was terrible. But we didn't go down the toilet after that. We struggled back to stay ahead in the game. Yeah O was fouled there, but we got the rebound and the foul -- and missed the front end of the 1&1.

We constantly made silly, OBVIOUS fouls throughout the last few minutes. If they shot like us they would have lost. O not sticany time.king with his man on the pick/switch lead to a wide open three. Williams not boxing out let MacIntosh sink 2 more FTs. Corey dribbles off his foot. If you want to win close games, you can't have that stuff in crunch time. Especially on the road against a team that's markedly better than you.

I watched most of the fouls on both sides over and over, and would take these refs any time. BE refs screwed us over and over for years.

Take some positives away from the game: Took top-flight opponent to the wire. Tightened up hugely on TOs. actually hit SOME FTs down the stretch. Never stopped fighting when many teams would've quit. Hit some threes and weren't afraid to take them down the stretch. We've got ZERO senior leadership, a problem from day one. (Hopefully, someone will step up next year.).

Terrible call for sure. Everyone says it was a 4 point swing, unit could have been a 5 point swing, as Getty's was fouled on his shot and would have had an and-one chance for a 3 point play.

It was a terrible call, but RU has to execute better down the stretch of games next year.....there isn't enough "go-to" options beyond Sanders and maybe Nigel and it limits what you can do when crunch time occurs....You cannot blindly just run your offense the same way each and every possession like you do in key possessions, teams will force the ball away from your key players and make you beat them with your 3rd, 4th option taking a shot.

If Omoyuri or Thiam wound up with key shots down the stretch or with the ball, hoping to get calls or fouled, it would make heads explode on how a staff allows that to happen.

NW losing this game would have shattered their NCAA hopes and it's really the only story of note left for the regular season in the B1G, so I knew when the Gettys call was made and the non-issue hedge-foul call on Eugene 40 feet from the basket, sent McIntosh to the line for 2 freebies, that RU was not going to be able to play the same rugged defense in the last 4 minutes....anything touched on a player was going to be a foul and RU backed off being aggressive and it was because of how they were calling the game, that impacted the defensive intensity.

In hindsight fans can probably identify 5-10 plays that were difference makers .Basketball games are 40 minutes of constant action ,ie, shots made/missed,fouls called/missed,
rebounds caught/missed,etc.Teams that execute in the last 5 minutes with all the pressure of winning at stake usually win.History has shown for a very long time that Rutgers doesn't have those type players such as Northwestern has in McIntosh.

Missed the game (kids sports in philly). It's nice to hear people complain about officiating. Games are close enough for the zebras to matter.

If that is the case, it surely hasn't helped Rutgers in football or basketball.Talent matters more than referees.

We made a basket, a task which we have trouble completing. The play had the potential to put Northwestern in a big hole and potentially take out the crowd. I think if that play was called properly, we win.

Since we have such a small margin for error, a single play like that is HUGE.

The refs for sure made some bad calls but we hit our FT's, we win despite the refs.

I had a great Saturday night because I know two years from now we are all making plans to see RU in the dance.

We're just so bad offensively that even when calls do change the outcome, we feel pretty damn silly blaming them. I mean to be ranked in the 300s nationally shooting from EVERYWHERE??? Degaz, we sat through some really bad basketball back in the day, with the worst Rutgers teams ever (based on RPI anyway, as the strength of schedule combined with the seven- and eight-win seasons would make the L-word worse than Eddie). Let us get just a little bit better before we start complaining about officiating.

After all, bad calls will always be with us. I still get pissed thinking about that jackass from URI tangling with Hinson ...

I rewatched the last 4:38 of the game, and the OP is right. The call on Gettys and the non-call on Eugene were brutal.

My main objection is consistency, or lack thereof, from the refs. Gotta call it the same for both teams.

To wit, there were 3 other plays in that last 4:38 where the interpretation of what constitutes a foul was not consistent: the no-call on Nigel's trey; and two touch fouls - one by Eugene and one by Nigel - against a dribbling Macintosh, both of which led to foul shots taken.

Any one of those calls/non-calls in the endgame could have changed the outcome. The fact that all 5 went against Rutgers is what ultimately sealed our fate.

BillyC, Can you repost those plays especially the phantom foul on Gettys on the other thread that is asking for a repost of the play? If many could see these they would see what we are talking about how we got shafted against NW in the end game.

knights 1212, I rewatched the game on my DVR, so the only way I can think of to post it here would be to record the image off my tv screen and onto my cellphone. I'll give it a try but I wouldn't assume it's gonna work or will even be a clear picture...
