Agreed.
The thing is, there’s not going to be a dominant team in the B1G this year like Purdue with Zach Edey. Much more parity, with the top team probably finishing around 14-6. There’s going to be a lot of teams bunched together in the 13-7 to 11-9 range, and tiebreakers will likely decide many of the seeds in the Big Ten Tournament.

Lots of pressure on this kid Braden Smith. I know he shot lights out with Edey in the paint attracting a lot of attention but will he be the same with more hands in his face? From what I recall he’s not that tall and his handle was not elite but conference player of the year? We shall see.
I think the BIG is wide open for any team to take title and you add in teams like UCLA and Oregon with RU having two of the top five freshmen in the country, anything can happen.

I never want us to be ranked high in the pre season poll. Pike always uses it as a motivator
We have the two top players in the country, Williams, guys that can shoot threes, and this 7 rank team in the B1G+. I don't understand. Time will tell.

As a fan of a newbie team, I don't have much interest in these type of lists, on which we usually are somewhat ignored...
Exactly! We have two of the top three FRESHMEN in the country. RU is very young with 5 freshman newcomers, and 9 newcomers in total. That is why RU is picked relatively low in the rankings. Can they gel and perform at a high level? Sure. Is it a certanty - not at all.
Rutgers can probably finish anywhere from 1st to maybe 14 so 7 is a decent compromise
Making predictions can be hard. I am pretty confident Braden Smith wont be Player of The Year or on the 1st team B1G when the season is done.
Lottery draft picks often make an impact right away in the NBA, so by the end of the year we might very well have the top 2 players, not just freshman in the country. With Cliff & pre MSG Mag we would probably be picked top 3 in conference and top 15 in country, even without all the sharpshooters we brought in...

Indiana will ONCE AGAIN be the over-pre-season Hype machine, and just bubble their way into the tournament.
Purdue has the name & coach, but unless Edy's replacement is even 60% percent as good as him, their expectations are way too high.. their pesky, but undersized guards only thrive in an environment with a top threat big..
