Who steps up the most? Lots of opportunity and all these guys should contribute more than last year.
Unless Hyatt has changed his shooting mechanics, I have trouble seeing him making a big jump. If he is still shooting that hard line drive at the basket, he will have too many games where he is a little off, and the basketball will be ricocheting 10-15 off the rim. I will reserve judgement until I have the opportunity to see him play again.Excellent topic!
Based on Pike's comments and the games in Portugal and what I hope happens, I picked Hyatt. If he is a legit fairly efficient scoring threat from 3 and going to the hoop AND can also create for others, we'll be really good.
If I could get a 2nd choice, it would be Chol. He's the highest-upside guy out of the rest, other than Cliff who is a known commodity at this point.
Consistency from Hyatt would be huge. He’s shown he can go off at times from deep (5-11 vs NEB, 4-7 vs Iowa), but there are also to many 0 for whatever games in his game log.Excellent topic!

Not sure I’d describe Hyatt’s shot trajectory as a hard line drive.Unless Hyatt has changed his shooting mechanics, I have trouble seeing him making a big jump. This was a topic every game last year. His shot trajectory made it so hard to be accurate. Hyatt has very good accuracy but way too flat of an arc to make a lot of shots. If he fixes that, which I assume he has worked on given his improvements, Hyatt can have a huge year. Not sure I’d describe Hyatt’s shot trajectory as a hard line drive.
In person, at court level, Hyatt was shooting a complete line drive when he was slumping. It's a sign of a player aiming a shot instead of shooting it. If he gets back to more arc, he can potentially fulfill his potential as a recruitThis was a topic every game last year. His shot trajectory made it so hard to be accurate. His handle in mid court area or when has space reminds me of Celts Jaylen Brown, it's just not smoothFrom what Pike has said it's not just his shot, he putting the ball on the floor confidently and leading the team in assists on a regular basis in scrimmage sections in practice.
If that's all true and we can have Hyatt and Gavin out there together and 3-4 and sometimes 2-3, it's going to be fun to watch.
Chol is the biggest wildcard. I've always been high on his upside from the first time we heard about him being recruited.Scangg....are you going on record with Chol this year?
Chol bandwagon much more crowded then the empty mag bandwagon we were on at this time last year
Cliff should thrive in a more up tempo system. It will take advantage of his speed and athleticism compared to other bigs. He's not a back to the basket skilled offensive low post threat. Running up the court and getting him dunks and put backs in transition better fits his gamePicked Cliff. maybe more wish than prediction. Would love for him to become dominant.
Exactly although it sounds like Hyatt and Mag might play at the 3 which would open things up, but that would mean less minutes for a guard or two with Noah Griffiths Simpson Davis and WilliamsI see the biggest challenge for Chol being positional.
I haven't really seen him play, but he seems like a 4, skills and body type
Hyatt, Mag and Oskar were all primarily 4's last year and Pike seems to want to get Wolf minutes there too.
Minutes at that spot will be hard to come by.
Also even in the half court the rolls to the rim should be more open. When Paul ran it teams just dropped off with Cliff daring Paul to shoot. Paul was just sooo unwilling to pull the trigger that it killed the effectiveness of itI agree - Cliff runs and moves so well - that's his advantage, not the low post game
Great test for Cliff right off the bat on Saturday vs Soriano
Can't read too much into the game but we will see how Cliff is used - hoping not as much low post as last season and lots more running and movement and lob catching
I wonder how much real scrimmage they will play, or if they will play more situational drills. If I am Pike I would be a little wary of playing an outright scrimmage. Pitino has been talking up Pike and the team and could be setting us up. Pitino doesn’t really have anything to lose if it doesn’t go well, but he has a lot of talent on his team (I honestly don’t know how he is going to manage his rotation, he has like 13 guys who could all start), and Pitino will have the NY media in his back pocket crowing about it if they play well. Maybe Pike doesn’t care, maybe he thinks we will do well and is not worried about it, or maybe he didn’t agree to a real scrimmage and they will mostly run situational drills.I agree - Cliff runs and moves so well - that's his advantage, not the low post game
