Lots of moving pieces off the board in the last few days. As the dust begins to settle who do you think we missed out on. Assuming we know who is still out there who do you want?
Although I've been saying for months I want an established coach, I have watched a number of Ash videos and he is growing on me.

I wanted Fuente, who has been off the board for a couple of weeks.

My concern with Ash is that he is a typical RU hire for head football coach. RU has not hired a head coach from another program since WWII.

No one. My guys Aranda and Meacham are still out there but it doesn't look like either will come to fruition.

BTW I think there must be something in the water at Cal Lutheran. Herman who I was very high on a couple years ago went there. Aranda went there. Eddie Gran the Cincy OC that I've mentioned as an OC if we hired a defensive coach went there.

I now it's a pipe dream but I always wanted Mullen. He wants out in the worst way. He knows within the next two years he will be canned, hell they wanted him out in 2013 with a 7-6 record. I don't think he would ask for that 4.25 mil he currently receives, that would leave his options to 1 maybe 2 schools a year. I think he wants some stability for him and his staff where pressure to win isn't so ridiculous in an impossible situation. My second choice Aranda for some strange reason isn't even a consideration, yet Ash is. Puzzles me why we would look at one successful DC but not another who has done it with less.

I like Mullen too but I'm basically refraining from the names that weren't likely realistic.

I think we would need to put up 5m to get Mullen's interest. That's if he's not canned for shopping around. Also, MSU may still match if we somehow opened a bank and offered 5m. I think there is no realistic shot at this. .0001% happening. When has RU hit a coaching lottery like this? Also if he's canned other SEC/ACC schools would go after him too.

Kurt Cobain. Curious if he would mellow out like Eddie Vedder or still rock like Dave Grohl.

Mullen won't take a pay cut to come to NJ where the taxes are very high as compared to Mississippi.

I'm not trying to be a wise ass but I think tax rates really aren't a factor in coaches minds. I mean if we're talking about taking a pay cut from 4.25 mil to 3.8 mil (not that I think we will pay it) and a new lease on life. Do you really think he's going to say to his agent, O wait what's the going tax rate in NJ compared to Mississippi, well then the deals off. Tax rates are for corporations and people like you and me not for people in the coaching profession where more likely than not you are moving every five years. I've never heard of a coach or player declining to go somewhere because of the tax rate.

Just looking at it really quickly, it looks like Mississippi income tax is 5%, and New Jersey, with its blended rates, would work out to like 8.5%. So you are talking a difference of $135k on a $4mm contract.
