Who the hell is coaching Myles on FTs?

He just stands there flat footed and shoots line drives. Both of those bad habits can be corrected - and should be - immediately.

How is that not drilled into his head every day at practice??

I was even more shocked that he caught the ball from the ref and just shot it immediately. No dribble. No taking a breath. Just launching it as if the shot clock was about to expire. So weird.

Most players want to get to the FT line. He looks like he can't leave it fast enough. Doesn't know what take your time means.

It's clear that we don't coach shooting in any sense.

No bending of the knees. He is coordinated and athletic, I have trouble understanding why it can’t be fixed.

Oh well. He is a beast otherwise.

He is not a good shooter, let’s start there. His form is better than last year. No dribble to get a rhythm and no knee bend. Maybe that’s what works in practice. Tough to get a lot better when you are not a good shooter to start with.

let’s appreciate all the other things he does well and hope he gradually improves.

The general consensus on these boards is that shooting can't be improved. It appears that RU'S coaches believe this too. Given this mindset, you would think that the RU coaches would be searching far and wide for players who can actually shoot. It seems like almost every other team I watch has at least 1 or 2 players who can reliably knock down open 3s.

(Article is paywalled but the money quote is right there in the tweet)

Coaching isn't going to turn a 25% shooter into a 40% shooter. But it can help a little bit. Even NBA players have shot coaches.

The Spurs have employed a shooting coach for years. Seems to have worked out for them. Dirk Nowitzky had a shooting coach for his whole career. That turned out well. Granted, coaching isn't going to turn bad shooters into Steph Curry, but it can certainly turn a bad shooter into someone who can make open shots.

Yup. Pitt is probably just as bad as we are at shooting the three but they made three killer open looks.

After Rutgers tied it, Pittsburgh scored six quick ones and then Murphy hit one to stretch it to a 9 point lead.

They stretched it to 12, Rutgers cut it back to 9 on the Geo Baker technical free throw. And then Xavier Johnson hit one to put it right back at 12.

Then late in the game Yeboah hit a three and Johnson got a bucket to cut it to 8 again. Pittsburgh took a three, missed it, got the offensive rebound, and drilled a three to put it back to double digits.

They only made five of them all game. But three of them were absolute daggers. They made open threes when they needed to.

On the other hand, Geo, Mathis, and McConnell all missed open three-pointers that would've cut the lead to 7 or 8. And then down 9 with 2:00 left, Ron Harper held the ball for like 20 seconds and then fired up a long one and didn't even come close.

Myles needs to get better at the line. I agree thar he rushes it and doesn’t bend his knees. He’s a huge contributor but the FT line for a big man who gets fouled like he does is critical. And we don’t have a point guard is correct. We turned the ball over way too many times. Paul’s worst game of the year by far.

The Mathis miss was a killer. Was wide open in the corner with lot of time. Momentum had just started to turn.

Yes, I felt the same way watching Myles. No knee bend, nothing to develop a rhythm at the line. Stiff leg and gets the ball and pushes it up there. Looks like he can't wait to get off the line. Clearly a lot of it has become mental. I think he was better last year. At least harper looks better at the line. I do think Nuts is right that we need a sports psychologist for the team and for our other teams. Does the athletic department have one?
