Who's going to the 50 yard line dinner on Thursday

I think it's ridiculous that I've been eating dinner for more than 50 years and I still don't get invited to this one. Shame on Rutgers for not taking care of the long time dinner-eaters.

Here's hoping Julie works some magic. Need the $$$ for a hoops practice facility badly.

Does that count what you paid to put 2 sons through Rutgers? I got that easily covered, lol. Guess I'll be on the 45 yd line this year.

You know there is a flip side to that.
No I don't what is the flip side, give me a clue? I am bothered because I asked a legitimate question of an event that I am attending and wondered if any from this board were doing the same. But so be it, and an added reason why I will be leaving rivals.

I think it's great you are attending but we live in a time where it's considered evil to be well off. Did you really expect this thread to turn out differently?

Thanks for all you do for Rutgers Sports, Scarletwoman. I went to the dinner last year but I am on vacation this week and decided not to attend, plus the price was bit high :-). I think the food was great last year and really enjoyed the whole experience. It's really amazing that they honored Bill Bauer since he passed away recently - obviously the last opportunity to publicly honor someone who gave so much to the university. We do not consider ourselves "well off" but we've been able to up our giving over the past 2-3 years - our children have finished college and gotten married and we have not yet retired. If we could give more we would, but who knows what the future holds.

Thank you Knighfan2000, I am not a millionaire but I and my husband do very well. We think that the education that Rutgers gave us has made it possible to give something back. No, we can't give 1,00,000 dollars but we do our part for all sports, basketball, football, baseball, softball, wrestling and gymnastics. I just happen to love all things Rutgers. So sue me.

SW - I'm sorry I brought up the cost of this event. I really didn't think it would bring assholes out of the woodwork.
Upstream, no problem with that It is sad that fans who cannot give as much diss others that can. We all want the best for RU. Maybe this is why I shouldn't be on this board and many others that I know aren't. Oh well.

I did not think it would be this bad. But my bad I will never post here again. I am gone,

That is a shame. This thread while a bit negative was far from horrible.

How about you come back after the dinner and tell us how the experience was? Might encourage others of us to donate more.

Okay so you are a joke. I can't believe the fan base that disses people that give to the athletics department. So sad and why where are we are.
Sorry you took such offense.I'm also a proud Rutgers fan, who did put 2 sons through Rutgers and they have done very well because of it. There was no malice intended, and I'm glad people like you and your husband can give back.I know both my sons have donated when they received requests in the mail. Just a little light hearted fun, and I'm hardly a joke, but I guess I deserved that.

I'm with you.
I don't see anyone being dissed in this thread.

I didn't expect ridicule to be directed at the OP. She asked a legit question, hoping to meet board members at an event. I can't speak for the OP, but I can imagine that she probably didn't like being used as the target of other people "joking" about how she was attending this event.

I'm partly to blame, since I brought up the cost of the event. But I did so to remind the OP that she probably wouldn't find a lot of people attending due to the price. I expected that some people would comment on the price, or make comments like the "Maureen Casey" comment. But I didn't think that Rutgers fans would target their humor at the OP, making fun of the people who support Rutgers Athletics in the way that is needed most.

I expected that we are all Rutgers fans, and all try to support the program as much as we can and whatever ways that we can. Obviously we can't all afford to make sizable financial contributions, but we should appreciate those who are able to do so.

Scarletwoman, I have always been a fan of yours, but if your skin is really that thin, you probably shouldn't post here. I don't see anything here that comes anything close to a "diss", rather just some light-handed humor by a few posters.

I don't disagree, but which post ridiculed her?
I just don't see it. I see someone bitching (presumably tongue in cheek) about not getting credit for their kid's tuition. I don't get how that was ridicule.

Anyway, hats off to Scarletwoman for her support of the program.
