i conducted a surprise RutgersAl inspection yesterday, after attending the basketball game. Much to my delight, the head coaches car was parked in his appropriate spot, and I have no doubt that he was hard at work, planning for this upcoming seasons success. There were also a good number of other cars in the Hale Center parking lot as well, telling me that the players are also, preparing to be the best they can be this season.

I entered Hale Center, and I found a football lobby as good as any in college football. What was once unremarkable is now a point of pride. If Ash can similarly makeover the rest of the football program in similar fashion, we are going to be bringing home many trophies.

I was surprised, however, that his nice new Rutgers supplied SUV had Ohio plates. Why? Is his permanent address in Ohio? What might recruits think when the Rutgers head coach pulls up in a nice ride with Ohio plates?

I was expecting NJ license plates with a big block R on his license plate. I was also disappointed that there were no R decals or magnetic Rs on his nice new ride, at least none that I observed.

I found this a bit odd, to say the least.

it should at least be a custom Ohio Plate with RU ASH or something Rutgers related.. sounds picky but I'd like the buy in too. I know in such circumstance it is difficult to have somebody from "the outside" and say this is how YOU should do this...but it helps when it is framed as this is my new home and how we are going to do it.

maybe its his personal vehicle..and not the one RU supplies to staff? Im sure if thats the case hes still looking for a NJ home, and maybe his kids are still in school in Ohio till june, before his whole family moves to NJ full time?

Al is a Miami fan. He has said in numerous occasions he supports that program first

Happy to see some RutgersAl posts; it's been a while...but this is just as creepy and stalkerish as I remember so I know he is BACK!!!

Oh c'mon. Its not that creepy. If you go the hale center, which is deisgned for visitors, it is hard not to notice the Head Coaches vehicle front and center in the lot, with the sign that says reserved for head ball coach. I think anyone would have noticed.

That said, I am sure it is just because he hasn't yet bought a home/changed his personal address. I would expect NJ plates in the near future.

Pretty sure that the answer to this one involves the fact that Chris Ash keeps busy with his job and everything that's not his job or his family doesn't get any time.

Aaron Henry tweeted this recently....

Hopefully this "PlateGate" is just an oversight. Needs to be corrected, nonetheless, and pronto, if this is an official program vehicle. Notice is served---he's on the clock.

Maybe it's his own truck and RU is working on getting him his official SUV? They need to de-Flood the old one and to get the losing out of it may take months! So he's rolling in his old one. OR-they are giving him a stipend towards his own car. Can go many ways with this.

What needs to be corrected? is there a clause in every coach's contract that they must maintain residence in NJ, register all vehicles, pets, boats and whatever else in NJ prior to arriving at the campus?

You people really need to get a life.

And why does Ash always go to the same deli to buy his sandwiches.
He is usually there from 11:45 to 12:05, then drives to work and checks all of his doors prior to entering Hale Center....

so you were in a new and improved Hale Center Lobby and don't post pictures yet you whine about the license plates on the coach's car?

Where are your priorities Al??

I believe his family is still looking for a house in jersey so Ohio most likely is still his official residence. Either that or Urban wanted him to get some HC experience so he can come back to OSU when Urban steps down.

this just in, Coach Ash's 12 volt plugin for usb support is red, is that RU scarlet or...

If the vehicle is, in fact, a Rutgers-supplied, FB vehicle, and if Coach Ash is "all in," then he needs to get the plates converted, ASAP. If that is not an official program vehicle, he gets a pass--in my view.

Wrong. He went to grad school there and, yes, he is a fan, but he is RU #1 through-and-through and has never made any such comment (as opposed to another poster who has, literally, stated he is a "Wolverine fan, born and raised in Michigan" in the past...).

Geez Al, the guy has been in NJ for only two months and probably has more urgent things to do than to go to MVC to change the registration and then go wait in a car inspection line.

Ok. He's just plain weird. And he seems very odd toward the new coach.

Saving on insurance, like all those North Carolina plates in Long Branch

Oh Al is definitely on the "eccentric" side of things, re: football, and there is NO question he wasn't thrilled with this hire - he wanted Golden or Cristobal without question - but he's one of the most loyal, and truest, fans out there.

** yes, I too am wondering why he's worried about the license plates, and think it's no big deal whatsoever

The details of his contract were posted online and this is the case. The University does not supply him a vehicle, they give him a stipend towards one.

The obvious answer- it isn't RU's vehicle. Why would he go through the trouble of switching the plates to Ohio?

Relax Al. Everything's ok.

Lovie is a strange choice. He has not coached in college since 1995. I can think of another former Bucs coach who had a much better resume for rebuilding a college team.

Lovie probably still has a home out there from his time w the bears.

Ick. Real creepy dude. And it seems the security issues at the Hale Center haven't been fixed if you were allowed to enter.

I agree. Typically his posts in the past have been mostly limited to insanely positive diatribes intended to invoke a reaction and nothing more. Lately he has also moved towards the absurdly offensive and divisive (see recently deleted post on the Round Table) or absurdly creepy (such as this post).
