Those are poor examples. The traditions there have made those schools synonymous with simplicity, their uniforms more appeal. The Michigan winged helmet (it was at Princeton first, of course) is a great recruiting tool.Has zero impact on recruiting. Just ask Alabama and Penn St
Speaking of which, remember that RB several years ago where that powder blue was one of the big draws for him?One would have to think (or at least, I think) that a player whose decision comes down to a uniform is not a player who exactly has his head in the right place about what is important about the program he is committing to. I hope that the uniforms don't change recruiting. I mean, hell UNC gets players at they have powder blue as their primary color. How important can it be?
Penn State had a coach rape small boys and it didn't impact recruiting. Not the best example.Has zero impact on recruiting. Just ask Alabama and Penn St
That's because we didn't win with them. The Chrome domes could have easily been iconic with a good winning coach. When I think of all the top flight recruits our last AWESOME uniforms brought in I wonder how anyone could even ask this question.
/Sarcasm. No thanks to the stupid gimmicky crap. Eventually we'l lose the futuristic font and get back to the business of football and not fashion for teen girls.
That's because we didn't win with them. The Chrome domes could have easily been iconic with a good winning coach.
Yeah you're always right LOL.Wrong.
Yeah you're always right LOL.
Hurt my feelings? I know how these things work. Couple of primetime wins on ABC against the likes of Ohio State, Michigan and such, plus a playoff victory and with time "The Chrome" would have become synonymous with winning. Salmon colored jerseys sucked but The Chrome had potential.Nope, not at all, but those things were never becoming "iconic." Sorry if it hurts you to hear the truth.
And people don't take looks into consideration when dating or getting married.Amy kid who's opinion of RU changes positively or negatively enough on the uniform switch in a way that woul "impact" their decision, is probably not the kind of kid we need.
Its like going on college tours and parents always ask first about the dorms and dining halls.....arent you there to learn about their academic programs?
So basically winning helps recruiting not uniformsThat's because we didn't win with them. The Chrome domes could have easily been iconic with a good winning coach.
Yeah, that's not the same thing. More like the guys choosing to work at UPS or Fed Ex has the uniform well down on the list of reasons to choose one over the other. And people don't take looks into consideration when dating or getting married.
Goes hand and hand. People like what reminds them off 2006.So basically winning helps recruiting not uniforms
What would Vince Lombardi say?
Now that is really putting things in perspective.Penn State had a coach rape small boys and it didn't impact recruiting. Not the best example.
For parents of recruits it may be just another subliminal message of how RU sucks.Don't think it should be a priority for recruits but I do think young players do care more than some may think about how the uniforms look. Saw some positive tweets from current players. Any potential recruits comment on the uniforms?
And people don't take looks into consideration when dating or getting married.
We are talking about kids who will pay double or triple just to have a shoe in a certain color.
Think about that for a minute.
Those who think this stuff doesn't matter -- especially when we're referring to the 13-17 age demographic -- are leaving sales on the table.
Mooby: I agree with you that your average recruit does not commit to a school solely based on the uniform.
However, every detail makes an impression and nice looking uniforms is an opportunity to create a positive one.
The more early, positive impressions you can make, the stronger your brand becomes. And the importance of marketing the brand and sending a coherent message to recruits is something that Ash seems to understand.
For example, is the layout, lighting, and music of the Hale Center lobby a deciding factor in what school to attend? Probably not.
However, there is a reason that revamping and upgrading the recruiting lobby was one of the very first things Ash did once he got here: It's literally the very first non-TV impression some of these kids have of the Rutgers Football program.
It's also why Ash insisted on a simple, modern uniform design. He wanted it to reflect the type of football program he intends to build: clean, tough, & no-nonsense.
