Will we finish in the top 25 at nationals?

Team scoring is the current standard. You can dislike the format and I'd be likely to agree with you, but certainly lots of wrestling fans care. It's the standard used to judge success. Falling outside top 25 would be rough.
Watching these big 10s tells me all I have to know about team scoring. Penn state currently has 113.5. Nebraska has 112.5.

When they wrestled each other 6 weeks ago, the final score was 31-7

Agreed… I really wish dual format got more love… the dual team nationals next year is a step in the right direction. But until then getting as many scoring wrestlers at nationals rules the roost but it seems we recruit more of a dual team mindset.

Rutgers will finish in the top 20. Looking for big tournaments from Peterson and Shawver and for both to AA.
Hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.. how inj are Peterson/SCW/Yara? I don’t think Shawver’s promise is coming true

It all depends on who recovers from their injuries and how well they recover. Until I hear updates, I'm thinking Dean will be out/very limited, Yara is a question as I didnt see what happened, and SCW needs to clear concussion protocol (?). The remaining crew, plus whoever of those questionable three going, needs to wrestle their asses off to make top 25.

Yeah watching the Dean match, I was surprised it didn’t get whistled 5 seconds earlier. Especially with 2 refs on the mat.
My buddy and I were there are were screaming at the refs for a danger call. I don't know wtf they were watching if we could see how bad it was from the stands.

I have always been a proponent of deciding the team title through duals, rather than the individual tournament. I think it would be really awesome and give wrestling something to rival March Madness or the College Football playoff.

Having said that, i suspect the ultimate results might end up not being that dramatically different than the current format, at least for the teams at the top. Using your B1G example, Penn State did end up comfortably ahead of the Huskers in the B1G tournament, I think it was 180 something to 130 something in team points. If you look at dual results, PSU basically dominated everyone in going undefeated in the conference, but Nebraska also had a very good dual season. They got clobbered by the Nittany Lions (as did everyone else), but their only other loss was 19-16 to Iowa on the road. Iowa ended up third in the B1G tournament. To finish on top you need outstanding wrestlers to score lots of points, but you also need depth. Those same qualities will be just as important in a duals tournament as they are in an individual tournament.

I'd love to see a meaningful duals tournament. For it to be truly meaningful, I think a really significant title needs to be on the line - like national team champion. I'll keep my fingers crossed that we'll see that some day.

We recruit the best kids who will come here.
Yes it does seem like lately we have been going for the big guns, Angelo, Mullen, Schultz, Knox etc, which is good, we are close.

I just remember a time when we would have a ncaa qualifier lvl wrestler already at a weight and then we would target recruiting 2 more transfers of similar skills at the same weight.. having 3 wrestlers of ncaa qualifier lvl at the same weight never made sense to me of best use of using resources..

I like the idea of a hybrid format but agree that it wouldn't make a big difference in the standings. Teams build for tournaments because that is what matters. If you prioritize duals more, teans will adjust. You would see less outliers like teams with one champ scoring well but dual teams with balance across weight classses who cant perform in the post season also wouldn't score well. Teams that do both would dominate.

I think Rutgers had some tough breaks this season. Injuries and attrition at weights where they had legitimate opportunity to score post season points are unfortunate. The final standings don't always tell the full story but nobody cares much about asterisks. The dual season was a success but current scoring just doesnt reward that.
