In a preview of next week's B1G Championship in Pittsburgh, 13 of 14 B1G teams meet out in Columbus at the OSU Scarlet Course. Only #15/14 Northwestern is sitting it out. The field is led by #25/31 OSU, #33/33 Maryland, #34/37 Mich St, and the only OOC participating, #40/42 Kent State. Rutgers comes in ranked #106/101 or 12th in the conference and tourney.

With only 5 members on the team, I thought RU had to go with the same 5 who have played every event since September.... Leigha Devine, Maeve Rossi, Rikki Nordvik, Lucrezia Rossettin, and Nicole Ewing but from somewhere a new member appeared, Hanna Tanaka, replacing Nordvik. 1st Round starts tomorrow at 8:30am with the second immediately following. The Final round is Sunday morning.

Edit: Tanaka appears to be a former lightly used member of Indiana's Women's team and a senior with a career average score of around 79. She is not replacing Nordvik. Nordvik is playing but not grouped with the rest of the team so this tourney appears to be 6 players instead of the normal 5.

I figured out what's going on. Unlike other tournaments the team has played in, this one has 6 "scoring" participants. Rutgers only has 5 players on the team in total after 3 left the team since the end of last season and weren't replaced. The player from Indiana is simply listed under RU to even out the 3somes and tee times.

It would seem it comes down to RU is participating at a disadvantage, 1 player short. If correct it's not what you'd expect from a D1 or B1G program imo.

Playing at a disadvantage thru NO FAULT of the Women out there playing, Rutgers finds itself in Last Place, 4 behind the next closest team and 27 behind the leader after 1 round.

Rutgers was led by Nicole Ewings +2 74, followed by maeve Rossi and Rikki Nordvik with 75's. Leigha Devine shot 80 and Lucrezia Rossettin an 87. No golfer is higher than T38.

Top 5

1. Ohio State..................-11
2. Penn State.................-10
3. Michigan State..........-9
4. Minnesota..................-5
5. Purdue........................-2

2nd Round is under way.

Not much to say here. Rutgers shot a team +20, the 2nd consecutive highest score for all 14 teams, leaving them in last at +36, 13 strokes behind 13th place Indiana.

Leigha Devine shot an Even Par 72. She stands T54, tied with Maeve Rossi for the highest at this point on the team. Rossi shot 77, Rikki Nordvik 78, Lucrezia Rossettin 81, and Nicole Ewing 83.

Top 5

1. Ohio State...................-18
2. Michigan State...........-11
3. Penn State...................-9
4. Maryland.....................-4
T5, Minnesota.................+1
T5. Michigan....................+1

Not going to bother going into the results other than say, according to Golfstat, 2 RU players withdrew from the Tourney this morning leaving the team with only 3 members left to compete.

I have no idea why as the reason isn't reported but hoping it's nothing serious.

"Because of player withdrawals due to illness, the Scarlet Knights were unable to post an official team score and did not register a finish on the team leaderboard."

Glad it was nothing serious with 1 tournament left

This is what happens when you attempt to play the entire season with the minimum number of players on your roster. They didn't have enough players this past weekend to enter 6 like the other 13 teams did even before the illness.

By comparison PSU has 11 and Maryland 9 team members. Heck, Delaware has 9 and SHU 7.

After not signing a recruit in the '22 cycle they went on the pre season trip to Morocco with 6 players, 1 of whom had missed almost all of '21-22. She disappeared from the roster almost immediately after the trip. Prior to that 2 of the 3 class of '21 recruits didn't return.

Hats off to Rossi who's given 5 years to RU Golf, Devine and Ewing 4 years, along with Nordvik and Rossettin as they play in the B1G Championship this week which again they'll be competing 1 player short.
