Woodson candid comments about Fran incident

Off topic, but was surprised that Patrick McCaffrey was actually there at the game and sitting on the end of the bench in street clothes. I would've thought he would've stepped away from attending games (and/or practices) entirely.
I like that he was there. It might suggest that he’s really trying to work through this as quickly as possible and he’s supporting the team. I feel bad for him. The kid has gone through a lot.

Our S&C coach gets T'd up for uttering a single exclamation after a particularly bad call, but they let McCaffrey go on one of his ridiculous Frantrums without punishment?
While I agree Fran should've been t'd up... the HC is (rightfully) going to get way way WAY more leeway than an S&C coach

I'm considering splurging for tickets behind the Iowa bench and heckling Fran hard

Might just be the choice of words heard or making a comment personal.

Could you imagine fran rolling up on Juwan like that? Would be the first time a head coach would get knocked out on their home court by another head coach LOL

Sure, but there wasn't one that I remember. Did you see one?
I wasn't there but having watched Iowa play a bunch, if there wasn't an official one, there certainly was a verbal one (or multiple) this is a huge deal for Iowa, they get the ball out of bounds after makes faster than anyone. It's a big part of their success. I don't think there is a stat for transition points after opponents makes but they'd lead the P5 if there was.

Don't know the exact NCAA rule, but with a warning (for delay of game) by high school rules, a notation is made in the scorebook and the coach notified. The ref does not have to make a big show about it, so maybe most people wouldn't notice. Then again, if a player was verbally warned previously, further interference with the ball could be an unsportsmanlike technical foul.

It is not a delay of game. @MiloTalon13 has it right. The rule as written is this:

  1. Attempting to gain an advantage by interfering with the ball after a goal or by failing to immediately pass the ball to the nearest official after a whistle is blown (See Rule 10-4.1.l)
Think of it like this, Rutgers is playing UNC or 1990 Loyola Marymount. You know they run after every made basket. To gain an advantage you tell your team to grab the ball after your makes and pass it to an official so you can set your defense. That is a violation of the rule above. And that is what was called by the ref last night.

And you can see in the clip of the call how Kris Murray knew the rule and "sold it" by throwing his arms up when he was trying to gather the ball.

Need to ride Fran’s ass big time at the Trapezoid of Terror on Sunday ☠️

The announcers never mentioned any previous delay of game warning prior to the Geronimo T. That’s why it was a mystery call. If you watch the tape, Geronimo can hardly avoid the ball as he’s crashing for the expected rebound.

As for Fran and his punk ass bitch son, who seems to have carte Blanche to inject himself into every skirmish his dad gets into, I hope your guys pound him into the floor on a drive to the hole this weekend.

Everyone saw the T signaled and then nothing. At what point did the Coaches Box stop being enforced??

Thanks. I was going to make that LMU reference but didn't know if everyone would get it. LOVED that team. I wish more coaches would have tried that style. Imagine pitching that to a recruit "we're trying to score 120 points a game".

Coach box is one thing. Fran just straight up heading over to the other team's bench to pick a fight. It was absurd

There was an earlier warning. The TV announcers never mentioned it but I saw it. For that reason I wasn’t surprised by the T at all

Scangg brought this to the attention of the Iowa board. Most of their fans trashed Woodson and felt Fran was justified. A few thought he went overboard going to the Indiana side of the floor. The majority seems to still feel he does a good job of working the refs and isn't that different from how Izzo and Underwood will go off at times.

Not a mystery. That's been a longtime rule (like forever) to not interfere with the ball. If the ball somehow lands in your hands, then drop it right away.
If the NCAA rule is anything like the high school rule, then the head coach can leave the bench area during an altercation. If Fran can justify that he left the coach's box because of a confrontation between one of his players and one of the opponent's coaches, then he has a legitimate reason. Also, that would have been Fran's second tech and he would be gone. I doubt the refs want to have to explain to the league why they threw a B10 head coach out of the game on a questionable tech.

The technical was retracted because the refs didn't have the balls to throw him out (he got a technical in the first half already so a second would've been an ejection).

Shocker: Larry Scirotto was there, one of the guys who missed the Ohio State call.

Indiana also had the worst technical I've ever seen assessed on them. They called one of Jordan Geronimo for "delaying the game" by throwing the ball to the official after a made basket, which is something that happens 15 times every game.
Larry Scrotum is what we should call him

The guy sucks balls

Watching Woodson curse like that, seeing the video of McCaffery and remembering Rice lose it just reinforces a big reason why I love Pike.

He’s a great example of a tough competitor who knows how to toe the line of being passionate and yet always doing so with class.

Rutgers faithful are more than capable of mixing it up with the verbal assault from the sidelines.

Did they really mostly think he was justified? I didn't read all the thread posts but I got a sense they thought Fran was out of line but just liked laughing at Woodson for complaining about it

A few thought he was out of line, but the going thought over there seems to be "he was trying to get the attention of the refs" (even though there was one behind him trying to catch up)

Woodson is now one of my favorite non-Pike coaches. I hope we run their ass out of the building on Sunday.
