Woolfolk!

Assuming Pike and co saw something they liked with the Reiber matchup, but agree with Salvi, this was the best Reiber has looked all year.

Reiber gave great minutes as I think we went on a 10-0 run or something like that when Dean entered game in 2nd half.
I may be wrong but I think Woolfolk was on court at end of 1st half when Maryland hit 3. He seemed to be on the shooter. Maybe a missed defensive assignment?
Or maybe Coach thought Dean matched up better vs Maryland than Woolfolk.

Maryland wasn’t really working ball into post. Dean is better perimeter defender for now.

Watching in a sportsbook in Vegas, my read is that we were getting eaten up in the paint and not getting much from Woolfolk on the offensive end, either. Reiber came in and shooting, potentially trying to pull a big Maryland body out of the middle? Also seemed that Reiber boxed out well. All that said, Woolfolk played 2 min and Reiber 3, so probably parsing it too much here . . .

Was going to mention that our depth is really solid this year to say the least.

I've noticed over the last few weeks that Reiber and Wolf will get different minutes at different times, rather than a true pecking order. Pike even had Reiber and Cliff in together for a few I believe against Purdue...We've got some interesting players with different skillsets. I like how Pike is utilizing them.

Mostly glad we've got 9 guys getting their juices flowing and playing a part. Can even get to 10 with Miller, who got some minutes as of recent as well. That's a nice situation to be in. Dean isn't gonna bang offensively in the paint like Wolf, but he's going to hit the boards, pass well, and make moves to the hoop...he's also gonna stretch the floor and can hit 3s. Certain March ups work for him. Other times, Wolf is gonna feast and Dean isn't gonna be the best move.

I'm enjoying watching them both play right now.

one criticism of Dean is that when he gets the ball he tends to try shooting it almost immediately. I know he wants to contribute given his limited minutes, but it often results in a rushed shot when we don't need it. He'd be better waiting for a good pass to be setup than rushing a 3 which is often bricked

He played good defense and think he had a nice dunk. The kid wants to contribute so he's gonna give his best effort when he can.

When Woolfolk was in, Maryland got a couple of offensive rebounds on one possession. Pike didn’t like that.

He missed the one 3 made the dunk and clearly got fouled on his other shot which we rebounded and put back in but he gave us a shot of energy and I think we went on a 10-0 scoring run when he was in; Also had a rebound; I personally would have left him in for a couple of more minutes

I think he's a good player but not playing his best right now. I think he'll get better as the season progresses. He seems maybe a little unsettled at the moment, and is maybe forcing too much because of it.

Someone he trusts needs to let him know that the way to show the coaches you deserve more minutes is not going to be taking 3s early like that. For one thing, 3s are low percentage shots for everyone so it's not the highest odds path to demonstrating success on the court. Dunks, like the one he made, and layups have much higher odds of success, so he should prefer them.

But also, a coach's view of the game is nuanced and, when players force stuff or exhibit a lack of situational awareness as was the case when he takes 3s too early in the shot clock late in the game while protecting a lead, the coaches will view it negatively even if you make the shot.

In that situation, take 3s late in the shot clock and the coaches will be much happier, 'specially if you make 'em.
