Would Princeton now consider playing us in 2019?

DoubleFacePalm.jpg

Sagarin's ratings have the two teams about even on the season. We do need 2 games for 2019.The NCAA would almost certainly grant us a waiver for the Sesquicentennial game.

Jesus I'm tired of the Face Palm "Holier / Smarter Than Thou" Police!

Princeton over Howard. Yes.

Since we are the Birthplace...it would be nice to play PU every 50 years....as a tradition.

If the NCAA has a problem with it ....they should consider it an extension class being offered by UNC (University of No Classes).

If YOU have a problem with it:

How about the fact the win wouldn't contribute to bowl eligibility?

The same situation exists whether Rutgers is far above, or closer to Princeton, with its football team. Princeton's reluctance to play has nothing to do with how the school's are rated. Period.

Wake me up when Ivy League starts playing Power 5 schools or FBS schools.

If we had stayed with Lehigh Lafayette Bucknell etc we would be kings right now playing before 20000 with a cannon and a view of the setting sun..Maybe not so crazy?

Back in the day Rutgers big game was PRINCETON.

We played Colgate, Delaware, Lehigh, Army etc.

I can't see how proposing a WAIVER OR EXEMPTION for the 150th anniversary of the first game in New Brunswick would be anything except great PR/ a "W".

Playing Howard (any of them Moe, Curly or Shemp) or the like adds less than nothing to our brand and does nothing re.: the branding of "THE BIRTHPLACE".

NO, PRINCETON WILL NEVER AGAIN SCHEDULE A FOOTBALL GAME AGAINST RUTGERS. As painful as it may be to hear, Princeton has academic, financial and societal resources that Rutgers will never match. There's no incentive, whatsoever, for Princeton to needlessly run the chance of having its football team mauled by a B1G opponent. Princeton simply doesn't need the name recognition, money or history that would accompany such a game. It already has those things in spades, period, end of story.

No, instead we will fight them in a wrestling match for a trophy. Show up and be part of history and the future. Our rivalry with Princeton will never ever end as we still play them in all sports but the football part is over.

Is there a reason we can't play Monmouth?
No but there is also no reason to play them.
I don't understand why this is so hard for people to get. The purpose of 1AA games is an easy win. There is no reason to complicate this. Why give NJ kids who were snubbed by RU a reason to play their asses off. MEAC all day long.

Its an irrelevant question anyway as the B1G is banning BCS games. I always hated the games vs Howard or Norfolk State anyway...Just give schools two scrimmages in August with other schools and call it a day.

There was an idea floating around by coaches nation wide to replace the spring game with a scrimmages against a local school, but that went no one. In that case, we could have brought back the Princeton game if Princeton even plays spring games.

PU will never play us. They made that pretty clear.

Does limping into a bowl game with 6 wins (including a crappy FCS win) really move the needle? The bowls have been watered down for years. Now in the playoff age, they are even less meaningful. Plus, just looking at the record, for RU at least, all those extra practices didn't translate into early season success. We are probably .500 against anyone with a pulse.

Yea it does a lot. It gives you an extra month of practice. That alone is reason to want a crappy bowl.

It's a little known fact but schools are allowed to play another team for their spring game. However, doing so forfeits your bowl eligibility(playoffs for 1AA). Princeton played their spring game against a team in Japan a few years ago. Made sense because Ivy's aren't eligible for the playoffs.

It's conventional wisdom that those practices actually help the next year's team. It probably does in most cases. Genuine question, because I don't know - is there any quantifiable proof?

Really? Getting young guys extra reps might not help them? Implementing more of the systems is a negative. Does studying help you learn? Some times I truly can't believe the shit our fans say.

Consider this nonsense taking over as the town contrarian for derleider. Just asked to show your work for s&g, no need to get all pissy.

No quantifiable proof, the advantage is that most teams spend the first week or so working with the younger players who have been running scout team all season on their team's offense or defense. You also have an opportunity to preview some potential position changes.

It's impossible to prove and you know it. It's a dumb question to ask.

Rutgers should petition the NCAA for a petition that exempts the RU-PU game from the norms of bowl eligibility (i.e. it would allow the original participants to play every 5- 10 years- without a penalty to the FCS school).

PS Like the trophy...

That shipped sailed, maybe if we never stop playing them, our game would have been protected by the NCAA like that.

The trophy is based on this program cover:

Really unfortunate that NCAA and B1G rules prevent this from happening. It should be a "Birthplace event" at the end of the 2019 season. Fundraiser. With nothing at stake. Just for fun with every eligible player having a chance to participate...
