It's not a question of blackouts, it's a question of whether Youtube TV carries the channel that the game is on.Are local games (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL) blacked out on Youtube TV?
No, as long as you’re watching within the viewing area. For instance, if I try watching a Mets game on my laptop while visiting my parents in south Jersey, I don’t get SNY while I’m there, because it isn’t offered. Likewise if I’m there and watch the Fox Sunday football broadcast I’ll have to watch the Eagles and not the Giants. Are local games (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL) blacked out on Youtube TV?
Depends where you live. Are local games (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL) blacked out on Youtube TV?
I kept the basic HULU service, but HULU Live TV sucked. I was very disappointed with clunky navigation, buffering and subpar DVR. Switched to YTTV. and wish I'd done it sooner. It's not a question of blackouts, it's a question of whether Youtube TV carries the channel that the game is on.
Youtube TV carries all local over-the-air channels, so you get local NFL. It carries SNY, so you get the Mets. However, at this time it does not carry YES or MSG. So you won't get most of the Yankee games, nor the local basketball or hockey teams.
If you are considering cord-cutting, you should also consider Sling, Fubo, Hulu, and Direct TV Stream. Different services carry different channels.
EDIT: This is what is offered in North Jersey.
I love this feature. Moved all the kids channels and useless interest channels to the bottom of the list, and all the channels we watch more frequently to the top. Most or all of the channels should be there as soon as you subscribe. The only thing is if you want to rearrange and customize the guide to your liking. For that, I logged in from a laptop to my account and rearranged the guide. Dragging channels up and down to rearrange them was a little PITA but just had to do it once so it was okay.
Also occasionally when YouTube TV added channels or what not they didn't show up in my guide on their own and I didn't realize they were added. For that too I logged in from my laptop and checked the boxes off for those channels and put them in my guide where I wanted them placed.
YouTubeTV has the most complete sports package of any cord-cutting service. It's not a question of blackouts, it's a question of whether Youtube TV carries the channel that the game is on.

My understanding of the situation is YES wanted more money, and YouTubeTV balked. When YTTV dropped YES, I switched to Hulu live. I am back with YTTV without YES. Hulu Live’s interface was awful. As for YTTV a few other points for sports fans. I pick up the sports package in the fall in order to get RedZone. Also, because they don’t carry YES, when the Yankees play on MLB TV it’s blacked out. I get the games on broadcast tv though-fox, etc.
I really wish I could pay for YES, but it won’t let me. I think the Yankees require it to be on the basic package.
I've experienced Cablevision, FIOS, Hulu, and now YouTubeTV. Every time the calendar changed, so did my bill for Cablevision. FIOS was great while the contract was active. Once it ended, the bill doubled in price, and I couldn't get a new agreement similar to the old one. Hulu was ok, but you're limited with sports options. YouTubeTV is the best. I love the sports package besides the MSG, but I was surprised YouTubeTV credited me $15 when Disney removed their stations from YouTubeTV during the dispute. Everyone other company continued to charge full price during similar situations.I have an antenna which gets me CBS, NBC, FOX and ABC and a bunch of other stuff (CW, PBS, My Networks, etc.) Since I am in Central Jersey I can both the NYC and Phily versions of both. It is FREE (once you pay for antenna), no monthly charge. With Sling it blacks out everything, so I dropped Sling since it is useless for sports besides national games. I really wish that YES and MSG had their own service. The only Streaming apps (that I have) that allow Yankees games are Amazon (which owns YES network) and Peacock (which is free with the internet I have).
* I have not tried Youtube TV yet.
That’s correct. They balked at including it on their basic packages for the NY area. I can’t pay for it as an add on, and I can’t pay for an app or get games on any of the MLB packages. That’s how important being on the basic package is to their business model. It’s also why we added so much value to the B1G network. My understanding of the situation is YES wanted more money, and YouTubeTV balked.
What makes YTTV better than Hulu Live? I personally love Hulu and never have problems, but always open to better services. When YTTV dropped YES, I switched to Hulu live. YouTube TV Question:
When you subscribe to YouTube TV, can you immediately scroll through all the included channels?
Or is there an exhaustive setup and selection process?
My biggest issue with Hulu was with their ads. They force you to watch them—particularly on the DVR. I can’t even channel surf because when I come back it forces me to finish the ads. It really sucks because you can’t start a game a half hour late and fast forward through the commercials. You have to watch them all. Part of the reason I DVR stuff is to avoid commercials. I even paid extra for fewer ads, and it did very little. The unlimited DVR on YTTV is hard to give up. On Hulu you get only so much space. Finally the user interface isn’t nearly as good. YTTV allows you to put channels in whatever order you want. You can group them and choose not to list channels that you don’t watch. Also, the Hulu guide only allows you to see a few channels at once, and it doesn’t let you look as far ahead in time. The user interface part may vary by platform. I use FireTVs.What makes YTTV better than Hulu Live? I personally love Hulu and never have problems, but always open to better services.
You should still get SNY wherever you are, provided you're just visiting. You'd get the Philly CBS/NBC/ABC/Fox, but you should definitely still be getting your "home" regional sports channels when you are visiting elsewhere in the countryNo, as long as you’re watching within the viewing area. For instance, if I try watching a Mets game on my laptop while visiting my parents in south Jersey, I don’t get SNY while I’m there, because it isn’t offered. Also, YouTubeTV doesn’t currently offer YES. They did at first but couldn’t agree on a contract a few years ago so no Yankees.
Thanks. I don’t DVR too much, but get your point about their guide not being customizable. They have the “recent channel” filter but it would be nice if they let you customize the guide instead of forcing you to scroll through things in alphabetical order….I do find that super annoying. My biggest issue with Hulu was with their ads. I think you might be able to use a VPN like Nord VPN to pretend to be elsewhere.. like home in North Jersey. I think you'd have to figure out what your external IP address is and then when at your vacation house use that IP through your VPN. But such things cost money.. unless you are really technical and want to build your own VPN.. which I think is possible with even a Raspberry PiNo, as long as you’re watching within the viewing area.
