Zach Allen to RU.

I have to think that he really has a solid shot at getting the starting job. Otherwise, why not find another school who has nobody right now? Ash had to say something that got his attention and I'm not talking about the usual "if you win the competition" stuff. I think he is now the guy to beat.

You may very well be right, and I actually hope you are, but he hasn't played QB for three years so exactly on what are you basing your assumption (or do you just feel that the QBs we have are just that bad)

A lot of wishful thinking going on in this and the other threads.

It seems to be more than wishful thinking. Many have awarded him starting job. I hope they are right but many have also given the job to Oden. From where I sit, and I admit that the seat in which I sit knows nothing about these kids other than what I read in the various articles, I can't understand how these proclamations can be made. But, there is going to be one he'll of a QB competition this summer. Hopefully it results in a good QB being found and not settling for the best of a bad group. I just realized I sound like I am talking about our choices for president.

I don't know how good he is but the boy definitely looks like a big time QB and I think the girl checking him out agrees......

The comments are hilarious and so 'cuse typical.
What!?! We didn't get him???! Well, ah, aww he wasn't any good anyway. Huh, who us? No, we don't need no quarterbacks here.
He wasnt going to beat out Dungey and didnt want to be a back up. SU staff are nervous about the backups. They are in trouble If Dungey goes down. Zach was recruited just for that reason. Has a great chance to start for Rutgers. He would be a fool not to go there.

Ash and the staff would not have gotten him if they did not think he would have a good shot at starting.

I absolutely agree but even Ash has to realize that his lack of experience and a three year lay off are an issue.

This late in the game you don't go shopping if the cupboard is full. The coaches must not like what they have and are hoping this kid can help in that department. They must have seen something in him to offer a scholarship. He's not walking on.

Also the kids been practicing football for three years it's not like he stopped playing and just sat in study hall. By that rationale any senior or RS junior who starts for the 1st time can't possibly be any good because they haven't played in 3 yrs.. Kind of silly train of thought, don't you think.

No, he walks on water already, and Laviano should pack his bags. That would make a lot of folks happy.
Yeah, we might as well take Laviano and Rettig out behind the barn and put 'em down. (Figuratively, of course.)

The extent to which you seem to resent people who are optimistic that we can find a better option at QB is somewhat odd.

People acting like Laviano is returning with the same offensive system. In that scenario no Allen wouldn't be a starter. Laviano isn't a spread running QB. Allen is

Obviously , the staff isn't happy with what we got so they are taking a flyer on this guy . We have 5 quarterbacks now so 1 or 2 will probably leave the program

Egri Bikaver??? I'm low class...I raise a Miller Lite, lol.

There are some excellent and expensive Bikavér (Bulls Bloods) available in Hungary. The one that is sold in the US belongs to the kitchen sink. In Hungary the alcoholics drink it in volume. The Hungarian government should ban its export since it degrades the reputation of otherwise good Hungarian wine industry.

Players eligibility is the biggest joke in CFB.

It should be based on age. You have to be between the age 18- 21 to play CFB.
If you are over 21 before the end of the year, then you are not eligible.
No exception.

You do realize that would disqualify a lot of seniors from playing even in their 4th year dont you? There are a large percentage of kids who are 18 when they graduate HS.

This certainly creates a logjam at QB with seven. It's a matter of time before we see one or even more of the current QBs transfer. It happens so I don't think anyone should be surprised.
Dare is probably going to be first. Who else, Gio? Rettig I think will stick it out and leave after he graduates to play a year as a grad transfer.

...and half of BYU's team are now ineligible if they've gone on missions.....

I am fully in agreement with you which is why I was very critical of the posters who insisted that the reason Rettig didn't beat out Laviano was that he wasn't given the chance to play last year. My only point is that Allen hasn't played for three years so to simply annoint him as the starter is somewhat premature. Yes, his having been recruited by Ash certainly indicates a lack of confidence in his current QBs and I am sure he is hoping that Allen is either the answer or will raise the competitive bar so as to make the current options better. Either way it is a win/win as it can not make the situation any worse.
