They did and Schiano was able to get some. Flood and his lack of "it" kind of brought it down.

New staff, new attitude, new vision. We'll see if it works. I'm realistic enough to know you'll never get all or even a majority of the Top 10-15 but if they can do better than who they replaced, it'd say good things for the future.
Schiano pulled a bunch in. He also brought in some high ranked recruits. Look at all the decommits when flood took over

There were years Schiano did, others he didn't. The decommits were technically in his (Flood's) 2nd class. They committed to him and then ran away from him.

Great attitude and fighting spirit. A young 18 year old athlete coming out of HS needs an identity if he wants to play on Sunday's. I see a young, charismatic and tenacious coaching staff who will land their share of talent.

Go get em coach! When Schiano had Hafley we got 4 of the top ten...and that was with out the B1G. Flood did not have the personality. He hired guys with worse personality. This new, young group of coaches can get it done!

Ash seems similar to Schiano in the regards to their high intensity level, stickler for detail (control freak ?), very organized, Defensive wiz, even a slight physical appearance similarity. I think Ash will have the same recruiting success initially and perhaps exceed Schiano's recruiting success after a few seasons. Damn, i hope he does , lol. Hope his assistant hires are better as well. Time will tell.

There are very few successful coaches who aren't sticklers for details. Belichek, Lombardi, Parcells, Saban, Jimmy Johnson...the list goes on of guys who were control freaks. At that level, it is the difference between winning and losing.

Hate to be a Debbie Downer but I've been hearing this since forever and it hasn't happened yet. Last night he had a thought? 40 years I've had a dream. Maybe we'll build a wall around New Jersey. Hey there's a new idea. </rant>

This is not addition by subtraction. You don't tell people to STOP being enthusiastic in hopes that things will get better. I mean, what do you want him to say? What exactly should the message be? And what does the past and your (or our) suffering have to do with this guy trying to do his job?

He shouldn't be trying to do his job because we haven't had kids stay home for 40 YEARS!!

While I wish he didn't start the tweet with "I had an idea last night" I like the tone of it. I would rather he said, "For year's people have been saying they wanted to have the top NJ talent stay home and play for Rutgers. Now is the time to show you are true leaders and all band together to bring Rutgers Football to the top of the B1G and College Football. No other state has such great talent. Let's show the world you are the best of the best. GO RU!!!" <--- yes some hyperbole but that is what is needed.

And I will take every coach on our staff talking and acting like this even if it doesn't happen. This is the attitude they need to have. Enough of this bs negative, ho-hum, we will never compete in our division crap. I want coaches who say we will not only compete but will win our division. I want coaches who don't think they ceiling is just below M-State, Michigan, OSU but that we can be above them. Think positive, act positive, be positive, get the NJ players positive, and then we will have the team to compete. Will we ever have a 100K+ stadium - no. Will we every have the winning history of OSU and Michigan - No. BUT can they ever say they are the birthplace of college football - NO. So take what we have over them and pound away. Go out there kicking and screaming and yelling and pushing to make us better. That is what we pay our coaches to do. Go Coach Ash and staff. I am tired of the loser mentality of some of our fans. I may not agree with all of your hires but what do I know. I run hotels. May qualifications for football coaching are non existent like most of ours so-called whining fans. Go shut everybody up so then they can argue about who said you would be the greatest coach in our history first. And yes, somebody will argue about that if we excel at all.

Didn't Greg Schiano say the same exact thing last decade ? Sounded good then, and sounds good now. Schiano had some very good classes, top 25 once or twice, and that was in the Big East or AAC. It can be done, as Schiano showed with several top 25 classes w multiple NJ top 10 kids. And now being in the Big10 East it SHOULD be done. Go get'em guys !

this coach has right mindset..time to start keeping some of the best talent in nation,in our backyard home!

What I want him to say is the same thing his head coach said: Getting top Jersey kids is vital to the success of RU football and we're going to get them. Like another poster said, I'm also put off by the "last night I had an idea" introduction.

you going to critique every word he posts on twitter? Do you think a single recruit cares if he writes "i had a dream"?

You are literally upset that a new energetic coach posted a positive tweet aimed at keeping NJ kids at home.

A bunch of tools on this site.

Seriously.

The Rutgers fan base is the absolute least deserving of success and most in need of a bullet to the brain, like a racehorse with a shattered fetlock. If you peruse the various Rivals boards, you'll find fans who are frustrated with lack of success, but nowhere will you find the degree of misery, self-loathing and outright hatred of damn near everything, that you find here.
