I can’t remember the last time we were 4-1 in September, but that’s what we’re trending towards. The worm has turned, and our Big Ten competitiveness has finally been restored after having gone missing for 9 years.

Game Ball goes to Jay Butler, because that is the biggest, fastest, most physical Rutgers team I’ve seen in a long, long time.
We block well, we tackle well, we run well, and we drill blitzers into the ground. We even make fantastic plays with Ian Strong making a fantastic catch over a defender, and then dragging his foot.

Wimsatt is the straw that stirs this drink, and he delivered with a 58% completion percentage, 2 TDS, 1 passing and 1 rushing, and most notably, no
Turnovers. With his 163 yard passing performance, there is a decent chance he might be able to average 200 passing yards per game, as long as he can play similarly.

He should be able to pile up stats against in September against every team save Michigan. Oddly enough, he missed some of the more makeable throws, but made some of the more difficult throws. If he can maintain his performance, this should be the most exciting season in a long time. A good quarterback gives us a chance to beat every remaining team on the schedule.

The Offensive Line played well, and didn’t allow a sack, and Drove Northwestern defenders back, and ctreated holes for the running game. We finally found at our starting offensive line with:

LT: Pierce
LG: Dunlap
C: Zilinskas
RG: Asamoah
RT: Needham

They facilitated a strong running game spearheaded by #5 Kyle Monangai, who was complemented by Freshman #20 Jashon Benjamin, an underrated recruit, hailing from Florida, who seems to be an especially good find, and reminds me of Ray Rice.

Isaiah Washington seems to have emerged as WR1, and paced receivers with 36 receiving yards, and a reasonable 9 yards per catch. He has been a model of persistence over the past five years, and seems to have a good chance of having a breakout season. Chris Long was the #2 receiver with 28 receiving yards and took a hard hit during the game. With Ian Strong and Christian Dremel also contributing, the WR Corp seems to have enough talent to be productive. Especially with others waiting in the wings.

The defense was everything we expected it to be, smothering, relentless, and able to force turnovers. Longerbeam and Melton notched an interception a piece. Powell had a particularly strong game, and Loyal and Igbinosun stood out. Mohamed Toure made a triumphant return with 1.5 TFL, a sack, and 8 tackles. Jennings piled up 9 tackles.

Most impressively, the team got 5 sacks, a quarter of last years total, in one game. And held Northwestern to 12 rushing yards.

Special Teams was ok, with a missed field goal hitting the upright, and a muffed punt being the sole miscues of the day.

An excellent performance, compared to what we’ve seen in recent years. All in all, it’s going to be a good season, and Schiano will get his extension, for a job well done. The program is significantly improved, across the board. A 4-1 Start seems well within reach, with Virginia Tech being a potential pitfall, but a game we should win.

Fieldhouse Al … please explain how being 1-1 in conference after five games suggests ‘big10 competitiveness has been restored’ ?

The RBs played hard, they had to make their own holes many times. I think they will have good games vs Temple.

Seriously? Why so negative? C'mon, 5-0 or bust!!!!!
Wouldn’t 5-0 be better?
Al has lost a step. I'm going to outAl Al here.

Michigan only put up 30-3 against a weak East Carolina, who finished 6th in the AAC last year.
RU's defense will hold Michigan to under 20, and our offense will score enough to win the game.

Maybe, but their D is really good. We had 5 first downs in the whole game against them last year. If not for connecting on a few 50/50 ball shots down field we probably wouldn’t have had an offensive score last year. Are we better now? Yes. Good enough to score 21+ Offensive points against Michigan?

A lot of teams got off to slow starts in week 1. Michigan looked a little pedestrian.
RU surprised and got off to a relatively fast start in week 1. Maybe it was the opponent, maybe it was Rutgers, or a combination of both.
Schiano and Elko said the same things post game- the greatest improvements are usually seen between game 1 and game 2.

We shall see how the season progresses.

I agree, Coach Schiano has turned the team competitive, it will be fun again this year.
