He was one of 5 Black starters for Texas Western in their 1966 win over all White Kentucky in the NCAA Championship Game.
The game led to a movie,Glory Road,in 2006,and of course, aided in the desegregation of Southern colleges.
In 2006,a young Black co-worker asked me if I were going to see the movie.I told him no.
He asked "Why not?"
I told him"Because I saw the game."

Does anyone refer to a basketball player as a "cager" anymore? In any case, Willie had an appropriate basketball name.
Didn't the facility at UMass go by the name of the Curry Hicks Cage?

My Grandfather was a pre-NBA pro referee back in the cage era.

I remember the term and Cagers was used occasionally to refer to BB back in the 80s, though rarely.
