RU Football recruiting: what happened?

The way the big powers recruit, there is very little variance from year to year. Maybe a big scandal and fired coach might scare off some big recruits.. but others will be there to snag the chance to play where they wanted. Such big events cause little ripples in future ability to win. And even that can be tempered in future years.

But programs like Rutgers.. think of GS first time here. Fur us.. he caused a big wave in recruiting.. but such a wave causes no immediate results. It takes years for that wave to "break". So you have to keep generating these waves of bigger-than-normal (for you) recruiting and some years down the road you hope for those waves to overlap and break as a big wave in wins... and then you hope that wave of winning (think 2006) can cause even larger waves to be generated.

And then,. just like the big boys, you have all kinds of things that can result in breaking up some of these waves you generated. And these days.. that could be scandal.. worse than expected season.. unexpected transfers including now being recruited with NIL money..

Bottom line.. it was hard.. and it got harder. (yes, that's what she said).
