In CBS Sports pre-season rankings, we are 10 spots below UMass

Thank you Chris Ash, the guy whose hubris- and condescension-filled opening speech was filled with words and implications deriding RU Football (as if our bowl streak and turn around under GS never happened or that college football was born somewhere else), now has brought us back to our...

    Women’s Tennis Transfer

It appears that WT Is getting a transfer from Texas Tech who has a very strong pedigree. This is exactly the kind of player we need for Big Ten play. Kudos to he coach!

RU Women's Rowing Ranked #13 In Nation

    Spectacular accomplishment!!

    Nice Women’s Tennis Win

Very nice road win vs Nebraska today. Still a ways to go and without facilities it’s very uphill, but a definite step in the right direction - kudos to the coach and team!

Rutgers Gymnastics Tops No. 22 Ohio State at Big Five Meet

I like the new Tennis coach as well - great job so far - if we can upgrade the facilities, she could perhaps start getting the players to truly compete in the conference. Hopefully those facilities will get on the to-do list soon.

OT: RU Endowment Size Increases To $1.33B

Of course $ matters in sports - we have been awful in MBB forever (I was at the final 4 in '76 - it's been a while) - is it a coincidence that we are the only team pretty much anywhere among P5 that lacks (until soon) a practice facility? How many baseball NCAAs have we made - is it a...

Baseball at Miami for opener tonight

Amen, Zap - for the umpteenth year in a row I will be at these games. 17 years ago I took my son to the RU Miami opener as his first (of many) RU events, today might be the last for a little while, knock wood, as he heads of to play college baseball next year. When he was younger he played vs...

OT: RU Endowment Size Increases To $1.33B

Endowment is critical. With some bizarre exceptions (eg, St Oaf, a quality regional college in MN, though hardly a household brand nationally, has a $450M+ endowment) , endowment size has a definite correlation to how the quality of a school is perceived (whether they know of the endowment or...

Nice Win by RU Womens' Tennis

I hear you njcanes but despite my kudos on the win above, the reality is that we still have a very long way to go in a number of sports, including tennis. The Big Ten records of our women’s tennis, volleyball, gymnastics, and softball teams and, of course, football team suggest that in those...

Nice Win by RU Womens' Tennis

Following up recent my commentary on the need for better tennis facilities to recruit well enough o win in the Big 10, I wanted to note our win today vs Penn State - this may be our first ever W in Big 10 play. Kudos to the team and the staff! A long way to go to be competitive, but a red letter...

Rutgers Tennis Sweeps Delaware in Season Opener

Very nice win and the current coach seems to be a huge upgrade from her predecessor (my daughter was recruited by the prior staff but turned down D1's to go to a DIII academic as I've mentioned before), but this team will remain winless in the Big 10 until our recruiting ratchets up...

    Ash’s Hubris (2)

Please go back and watch his initial press conference, of course Flood messed up the program Big time. But his speech made it seem that we have never been a strong program and how much of an uphill battle he faced. True or not re the latter, it was offensive.

    Ash’s Hubris (2)

Again, my comment on this board when ash was introduced was his arrogant tone and failure to say a single nice thing about an RU football program that has been a perennial bowl team for a decade and that has put a number of top players into the NFL. He made it seem like we were a total disaster...

Hire Terry Shea as QB Coach

Until we get a cadre of quality QBs on our roster, the best QB coach on earth won't make a material difference. Having said that, Lewis and Sitkowski seem to have the abilities that could be aided with top quality QB coaching such as Shea could provide.

    Ash Contract Extension

I must say that I was a bit surprised (but maybe not) to see calls for an extension after the three Big 10 wins (as nice as that was). I know the bar is low (calling for an extension after a horrendous 2016, mediocre recruiting this year (other than Artur S) and the loss to what has turned out...

    Ash

I keep coming back to my original thoughts on Ash that I posted when he gave his introductory speech. As I said at the time, his arrogant and ungracious approach made it seem like we were the bottom of the bottom of the college football world and we had not won a game in 50 years rather than our...

OT - HBO Real Sports - Segment on Youth/Travel Sports

You're exactly right about sports getting you into top schools, Moz and funny you should mention those two schools. My daughter had a lot of D1s interested in her but she wanted a small liberal arts school and those were two of the final three that she narrowed it down to. She was an excellent...

OT - HBO Real Sports - Segment on Youth/Travel Sports

I agree that there's some me of that, but to the extent parents can afford it, the reality is that to have any chance at playing certain sports in college - especially soccer - and yes it is a long shot to get a D1 schollie for so many reasons - you need to play travel. Sad but true.

OT - HBO Real Sports - Segment on Youth/Travel Sports

My son played on a high level travel soccer team and has played (and I coached) travel baseball, including now on an exposure team. I've seen it all - the good and the bad. Mostly great memories. My daughter, now a college athlete, also did travel soccer on a top team, but she also played USTA...
