“1126 River Road is directly in the path of the new sewer line to accommodate increased sewage demands of Rutgers Stadium,” Ryan Jones, an attorney for the township said in a March 2018 letter to the Paglia’s lawyer.

If I remember correctly, years ago, the clowns that lived there used to put up Colgate flags when we would play them. Can you imagine somebody doing that in Columbus with Michigan flags? The house would be set on fire in ten minutes.

There is zero reasons for that house to be demolished. They could proceed on either side of it. Something doesn't add up right especially the towns offer of under $400k. That is a joke!
depends on what's on either side of it above and under the ground.

A guy Rob that went to Piscataway High that we grew up with used to live there in the middle of Johnsons park. Not the family that own now though.

I agree. $100 they tear down the house, add the sewer line and then make some parking lot for politicians or some BS.

Sounds like the town wants to get rid of a nuisance by claiming eminent domain for a proposed sewer system that has no documentation.

The town began removing furnishings on Saturday. “The town declared eminent domain and said they were knocking the house down on Monday,” Ammirato said.
The Paglias were served with cease-and-desist letters claiming they were running an illegal rooming house. In court documents, the couple’s attorneys called the township’s claims “baseless.”

It really seems like the town is trying to bully them into giving up the property.

There has to be a personal reason why someone in power is trying to take the property from them. The mistakes the town is making are incredible.

The mayor of Pway is a well know d-bag (and most council members).

He’s still pissed from the 68-6 stomping in 93 at the meadowlands
I was there.

I'll never forget the following week against Temple how small the return guys looked for the Owls. Like Pop Warner small.

Not sure why the town would get involved. House is surrounded by a County Park, is on a county road and the sewer line is being added to the state universities stadium. You would think if this was truly eminent domain it would be administered upstream vs downstream.

I remember the being on a school bus that dropped a kid off at that house back in the 80s. I live across town so no sure why I have that memory, maybe it was a late bus.

Not sure if it’s even settled today - the owners of the exdairy farm got totally cheated.
Halpers got hosed. Eminent domain is one of the most evil uses of government power. Piscataway still working on that Ecological Preserve more than 15 years later, while approving warehouses across the street.

It could be that the utility infrastructure (sewer main) itself is owned and operated by the municipality/township, even if it's connecting to a facility sitting on the state university's property, so they'd have at least some jurisdiction over their asset?

Possibly and that makes sense. But my experience with municipal government is they are usually looking for others to pay for their acquisition. Either in form of direct county/state support or via grants.

As if eminent domain wasn't bad enough a previous supreme court allowed it to include any improvement for economic development in the Kelo decision.

Halpers got caught in a political skirmish. But they were not innocent bystanders. That farm should have been shut down for animal cruelty and neglect in the 80's-90's. Animals were mistreated and were constantly on the loose along Metlars lane and the surrounding neighborhoods. It's amazing there were never accidents.

Actually there were - my wife’s sister in law hit a horse that jumped fence onto Metlars Lane. Killed horse and her VW - luckily she wasn’t hurt

exactly... look at a map... it's literally the only structure on a 1/2 mile of open land..........

this is a scam...

I find it funny that they say "“1126 River Road is directly in the path of the new sewer line". Directly in the path?? You mean the path that you went out of the way to design it to go through the middle of the house like it was a target??

I'm not privy to any dealings, or completely knowledgeable about the engineering, but just an interesting point:

- The Middlesex County Trunk Sewer runs the length of Johnson Park, basically in the backyard of this house (as I'm sure many of us are aware)
- I do know, that currently the sewer line runs from (at least the "old" portion) the stadium, across Sutphen Road in front of the Golf Course Maintenance Garage and hooks up to the municipal line on Golf Links Ave. There is a flow gauge for this sewer main mounted on the front of the maintenance garage, and sure enough during a well attended game that thing would be pegged out (almost like a "Richter scale").

The house location is obviously ideal for a monorail stop. It's all part of the strategic plan. 😉
