“Grant”-ed. It’s time to make the move.

Because it’s not Rutgers paying them. Sure Pike was a trusted coach who is tight with the Harper family but the situation of the package deal fit at Rutgers moreso than other schools
I don’t claim to know the ins and outs of the deal so can you tell me why Rutgers was the best fit? To my understanding, this deal never happens if RHJ didn’t love Pike

Yup..the lack of defined roles on a team screaming for defined roles is a staggering indictment of Pikes control over his players.

Thats why we see Lathan, Grant, and Davis try to get theirs in bad spots
No control.

Another DNP for Grant tonight

He must really be deep in the Pike Dog House.

If he didn't see floor time tonight..................

told you so
Somewhere between DENIAL and BARGAINING. I want to think we have an answer somewhere on the roster. The reality with our team such a mess that Davis is playing 20+ minutes Grant is very unlikely to be a big difference maker that quite frankly we desperately need come B1G time

Martini gets PT but isn't shooting 3's. If Grant can't get ahead of him, that's alarming.

Interested to see if Martini gets PT in the next 4 games.

His shot is a friggin line drive. It’s pure luck if it goes in , and looks pretty clunky in general.

He showed he is ready. He needs to take ALL Martinis minutes!

I would start him at the 4 the rest of the season.

Tonight's performance by Grant creates a lot of questions for Pike.

Grant had 3 offensive rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal, 1 dunk (nice alley-oop). Martini was invisible once again.

Grant does love to shoot the ball though. He ain't shy about that.

If Martini gets another minute, the staff is doing something wrong in their coaching of Grant. They have to coach him up so that Martini is no longer an option.

I like Pike, but it’s near coaching malpractice that he hasn’t been playing

When you have guys in the four and five spot who get basically nothing on offense , get nothing on rebounds , and …get
Best on the defensive rotations time after time ….and this guy comes in and his playing rotations pretty good , helojng pretty well, and hitting the glass …..and is athletic ….

It’s troubling

If Pike couldn't be trusted to get this right, what can he be trusted with?

Martini has been a zero in the box score and a minus on defense.

At face value, it looks like a terrible call by Pike not to be playing Grant. So bad that he has to come clean with the real reason Grant hasn't been playing. Maybe there's something we don't know about?

I think Pike is borderline incompetent when it comes to offense, but was willing to subscribe to "Pike knows best" when it comes to defense.

It's just strange bc Grant is a long, athletic, willing defender, better rebounder, shows hustle and grit... he didn’t even give a shot to a player that seemingly fits the profile of a "Pike" guy

Should he start ? Or just get major minutes. I think start as I mentioned at the top, set the tone and maybe actually get a lead instead of spotting teams 8 points

I haven't seen last nights game yet, but he should start just for the additional length added. Bailey should be at the 3 most of the time.

Grant should start just to send the message that your play on the court will be rewarded with playing time. Send the message Pike. Hustle and play hard and you will be rewarded

Grant adds what we have been missing. Moving Ace to the 3 and we should fix some rebounding woes as well as improved defensive length and athleticism

What does he have to lose at this point anyway? Clearly a shake up is needed

I'd also pull people for lack of hustle until it's time to give Dortch a shot. Odds he stays 5 years here are basically 0. NCAA might grant 5 years of eligibility now anyway

Your point is valid. Redshirting a player is most likely to the benefit of a different program than your own.
though likely not a difference maker. Might as well see what he does in live action at this point.

Getting better every game! Since he started this team looks soo much better!

If he gives us close to 10 a night , plays great D and rebounds we are going to be in good shape
Kid has only played in 7 games. Hard to believe, when you see him perform like he did tonight in a B1G road game, 15 points on 7-8 shooting including 1-1 from the arc, 3 rebounds, 1 block, and 0 turnovers. He has lifted the whole team.

Very impressive game offensively. Didn't try to do more than he was capable of.

Defense seemed like it needs a lot of work.

He's gotta be a 25 minute guy.

14 out of 23 from the field since he entered the Wisconsin game, with RU down 16 points.. he missed some FTS, not going to go bananas about that yet. He has knocked down 4 of 8 from 3......33 PTS in 4 games in a total of 78 minutes of play.

I don't know where the kids floor is right now, because I don't think he is a "go give him the ball to get a bucket ", but with pieces around him that can move the ball, he can find space around the paint or left alone in the corners for 3s.

Stealing 8PPG on some dunks, put backs and mix in some rebounds and there's something to build around. Credit to Smoke Williamson, he's got the recruiting aspect (to me) in a place where you'd have to feel confident on the 2025 class and the targets for 2026 as well.

Credit goes to Grant, coming into a situation with no game action for weeks, very difficult to do when you're not in the rotation on a consistent basis.

Stealing points is a great way to put it. Good things happen when you don't just stand in 1 spot.
There is opportunity for 10 points for him even if all of his shots are within 5 feet.

It's funny. The ENTIRE team does look better, but the starting lineup has been pretty bad together. Grant doesn't provide the D or rebounding I thought he might, but is better at other things than I thought he'd be too.

Hmm. Really? Grant is the reason this team is doing better overall. D was good, blocked shot, 25 pts

Grant is really growing throughout the season, and it's great to see. Huge upside, and he's playing much more comfortably and within himself on the court. Defense improving, decision making improving. Looking forward to big things from him.

First stint (3 games - Wagner, (n)Texas A&M, @OSU):
20 min, 0 pts, 0-8 FG (.000), 0-5 3P (.000), 0-0 FT (.000), 3 rb, 1 ast, 1 stl, 0 blk, 0 tov, 2 pf

Second stint (4 games - Wisconsin, Purdue, UCLA, @Nebraska)
77 min, 33 pts, 14-23 FG (.609), 4-8 3P (.500), 1-4 FT (.250), 11 rb, 2 ast, 1 stl, 5 blk, 3 tov, 4 pf

He was great on the offensive end tonight. Yes, he had a block and is active, but has a ways to go on defense, which is fine, he is a freshman. Don't think he's topped 3 boards yet, so he can improve there, and will.

Maybe Grant is the much needed third option guy on offense. At the very least his stroke is true from trey and he can rebound and follow up on the offensive glass. Ace was able to find Grant on a nice dribble drive and pass to the corner for a splash from three. The trust level among teammates on O is good right now.

Thoughts on if Grant is playing more because he’s rapidly developing or because some other dynamic changed? In today’s world if a player adds needed value, you play them because there’s a very real likelihood they transfer at the end of the year, even if they are a freshman.

A few weeks ago the team was in a disastrous state and he wasn’t seeing the floor, leading me and others to believe he was another probable recruiting miss if he couldn’t crack the rotation.
