Player You’d Pick To Emerge In The BTT

The Big Ten Tournament is one day away. I know it’s been a rough season, but we all still like to dream and hope for a magical run. I mean, we’ve had flashes of potential where I would say I wish we could play like this all the time.

So here’s my question…
If you had to pick one player to step up and be the difference maker in our BTT chances, who would it be, how would they do it, and why would they be the difference maker?

Would it be Ace popping off? Martini/Ogbole being the rim defender we’ve been needing? JWill being a reliable floor general? Grant being the second coming of Dennis Rodman? lol.

For me, it’d be Acuff being the consistent spot up 3-point shooter that we’ve always needed. Mainly because I think it’s entirely feasible, but we haven’t tapped into it enough. When we were blitzing Michigan in the first half of the second game, he was a critical part of that run. It was wild how on-point we were on offense. Somehow we got away from him in the second half. If we are to beat teams like Purdue, we absolutely need to keep pace in scoring and Tyson definitely has to play a part in that and open things up for Dylan and Ace.

I’ll watch. Hope they win. But not into it and not unhappy about the season ending. Nothing against the two guys, but HATE one and done in college hoops. Team didn’t defend or rebound. Some level of selfishness offensively. If they all exit via portal I’ll get over it.

Not Ace. Shoots tough shots all over the court. Good luck being consistent.

What do Lathan's numbers look like when shooting inside 14 feet for the past 10-15 games?

I hope to see guys taking the shots they should be taking and not taking the shots they shouldn't be taking.

You mean besides the one guy that could lead us named Harper? It has to be Ace because nobody else on this team can be a consistent achiever and that much of a difference maker.. They all take turns having a great game here and there. Besides regardless of play Pike will stick to his rotation and put a governor on contributions.

It’s needs to be Dylan pulling a kemba

But kemba finally got help in March …so you would need ace to be not the slumping ace, lathan continuing to chip in 10, and meaningful contributions from everyone else with one of the roll players gettong hot

Maybe Tyson gettong senioritis

Men's Big Ten Tournament Breakdown and Predictions

Rutgers Scarlet Knights (11-seed)

Rutgers is a true sleeper in this tournament because of Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey, who will both surely be lottery picks in the upcoming NBA Draft. This team played much better in conference play than earlier on. However, their last three wins were against the lower echelon of the Big Ten conference,

Positive Takeaway: Harper and Bailey could go on a run basically by themselves. Both average more than 17 PPG. These two need to run on all cylinders because this team is just not deep enough to contend with the likes of the top of the conference.

Ogbole has never been a rim defender, the guy can't even take the opening tip.

To answer your question it's either Acuff or Grant.

I will take this assuming Ace and Dylan are on. But we need a third guy to step up to really make a run. In that case it's got to be someone pumping in treys at a high rate. I'll say Martini. Maybe that would force the opponent to pull a big out of the paint, clearing more room for others to attack. Let's go crazy and say he averages 14/7 with 3+ threes a night.

Dylan or Grant.

Ace plays a Carmelo Anthony like game in a way. Every shot is a hard shot. He's gotta keep off the dribble and drive. Once he beefs up, he will be a very good player. The dribble drive should be Ace's best friend. Although for his shots, he does have a quick release.

Ace gets his shots off now by pure athletic ability, on a quick and high jump. He is pretty average on creating shots off the dribble now and can get bullied by bigger older defenders in B1G. If his ball handling improves and he gets stronger watch out--NBA scouts obviously see this potential in him.

100%. Good luck to Ace! He was not a typical Pikiell player, but Pikiell couldn't refuse, lol.

Ace hasn't scored 20+ points in any of the last ten games, and he's only hit 6 of his last 36 from 3-pt range. He's in a major slump.

Ergo, the answer to the question is ACE.

Really hope we get to see the rematch against Purdue, just to see how the players respond to that beating. That’s the only reason one could say maybe RU can win, because Dylan and Ace show out, and supporting cast defends like they never have due to being motivated by pikes reported lashing out to them. Hope we get to see it

Other than Ace and Dylan, Lathan could be that guy, based on minutes he gets and his scoring from within 7 feet of the rim and at the foul line, plus his ability to draw fouls.

If he devotes more energy to boxing out and rebounding, he could be the difference, so that we somehow find a way to win more than one game.

Btw, if by some miracle we play 5 games, it will be because a different role player or two steps up each time, with several of our guys (JWill, Grant, Acuff, Martini, Dercack, Davis) capable of going off.

One of our solid wins was with Acuff providing some solid under control play.

More Acuff and MArtini (playing at their most effective) and less Dercak and Williams

well.. we scored 95 on them on Feb 23rd.. USC will not try to run with us again. So, if forced into half-court offenses more often, I'd think we'll need some Acuff. 5 guys in double digits last time with Harper hitting 25.. then Ace 14, Davis 13, Acuff 10, and Sommerville 10. But I'll go with Grant cleaning things up as Harper and Bailey draw doubles.

I will say again. Dercack is a magician at drawing fouls. He will just get every team in foul trouble. LMAO.
First game today had 21 and 22 FTs off 16 and 21 PFs. That's a lot of calls for the opening game in a tight schedule. Maybe the refs won't be suppressing calls... that would be good for us, I think. I hate seeing physical play by opponents go uncalled because the refs are "letting them play"... we're a pretty soft team that plays D cutting passing lanes rather than checking the ball and screens aggressively.. and "letting them play" is just an advantage to opponents.

Example: seeing Kaufman-Renn get his second PF in the second half was such a joke. And if we win we face that bastard again.. right?

Agree. I’d rather take my chances with Acuff and Martini. Plus, steady (STEADY) play from JMike—reliever DH of ball handling responsibilities, don’t get to the rim thinking you’re 6’6”, solid D.
