“Has a coach ever been more important to a school than Greg Schiano is to Rutgers?”

Coach Schiano should be congratulated for getting Rutgers to respectability, however we have never been able to get the best possible results in a season. While certainly better than before, we have never had a big championship year. For this reason I assert Coach Schiano is to college football what Buck Showalter is to MLB.

Both are program builder's that set great foundations for further success, but are not the guys to win championships. Only God knows why but for whatever reason they don't seem like a championship is in the cards.

Both are the type that could turn a mess into a respectable program that look good enough that they could be among the best , but lacked something ( in their coaching ability) to unlock their teams full potential and fall short of the expectations their team's fanbases had/have for the team .

As much as Greg has meant to RU (twice now), Barry Alvarez has knocked it out of the park with Wisconsin.

And Wisconsin was a worse program by far when he took over which I remember around 1990-91...

close to what Ash produced
1987Wisconsin11380.273-6.300.34
1988Wisconsin111100.091-12.993.01
1989Wisconsin11290.182-8.674.05
He also had a president/chancellor who was totally on board in Donna Shalala.

Holloway is good but it seemed she had more sway/power over the whole thing than he does here.

We are basically in total agreement here. 👍

All of my posts, except the last one were before kickoff.

Not a hater at all but as I have said in this thread and others like them, sooner or later we need to see more.

Everything is there now for this program to be just a little more than it is now.

So let’s wait to see how the whole season plays out instead of wringing our hands over one loss.

As previously mentioned on this site my measuring stick for a successful 2.0 was an appearance, not even a win, in what was considered a NYD6 game. And yes, I know the new playoff format has changed some of that but you should all know what I mean.

As of right now there is still a possibility of that happening.

So again, let’s see how the rest of the season plays out and then revisit this discussion.
never calling you out.. but you know how the haters act.. in all things.. not just anti-schiano haters. they twist everything to the most negative slant, even in good times, never giving an inch.. and whenever there is a crack to exploit.. they will be there (this is such a time). And they will then get agreement on certain things from the non-haters because there is often room for legitimate criticism.

So.. when I said the haters are coming out again.. that does not mean everyone who posts something critical is a hater... but they do have the haters company.. and support. And the haters hope they will get people like you to agree with them.. and leverage that for all it is worth. That doesn't mean you or anyone else should stop giving legitimate criticism.. it just means we should be wary of the motives of some.

We only have the ignore list as a tool to identify the unhelpful haters.. would be nice to have a note system attached to handles/avatars. You can only remember so many posters "names" and habits. Would be nice to take a note that follows them around.. seen only by the person who made the note. I used to play online poker for a time and found it very useful.. help identify pushers and bluffers and "rocks" that I had encountered before.

Keep this in mind.. the haters never wanted Schiano hired.. at all.. not GS1.0 more GS2.0. They wanted GS1.0 fired in year 3. This is GS2.0 year 5.. sort of 5 (CoVid).. but we have been to two bowls. Some might not count Gator.. but if GS did not get the APR fixed and win 5 games we'd not have gone.

You (not actually YOU, the generic "you").. You want a better head coach? A high-priced offensive guru? here's how you get him. Support the program and Schiano in getting us a few more respectable seasons and upgrade of talent. He'll get the NIL and academics and revenue stream systems on solid footing and build teh reputation fo Rutgers Football in the Big Ten to a point where some offensive guru out there will think.. you know.. that a good team and good talent and it is ready to win at a new level... it just needs "me".. Google me. And we may even be able to afford him.

Now is not the time to insist GS be on some kind of hot seat. It is exactly the wrong time for that. But that is what the haters would want.

Schiano’s seat is nice and cool…he’s going nowhere…like memory foam infused with cooling gel cool. Even if here were in real trouble, which he isn’t, we cannot money whip someone out of here like other programs can do in days.
