0% chance that Eddie returns -- Thamel

Feels like he pulled some of the possible coaches out of his a$$ on many of them. King Rice to UNLV? Seriously?

I'm good with this.

A lot of folks here said "Hobbs gets it" related to Eddie. Apparently he does - not sure in the way they figured.

Seems like the Rutgers budget makes the decision who to pick, rather than going after the best.

Don - exactly WHO do you think, better than the names we've talked about, would be available to come to Rutgers EVEN IF we had a lot more $$$?

Chris Collins makes $1.4 million

Jordan will make that much next season if retained.

Who's getting the better deal?

Please tell me what is wrong with Sendek?

He went to the NCAA five times in a row at North Carolina state. Any ACC program that can go the NCAA five times in a row with duke and UNC locks on an annual basis taking two bids is a really good coach

He has success at Arizona state. They were a bad pac12 team. They went to the tournament one time since beating us in 1991 before Sendek got there. They are so the little sister of Arizona basketball in their state and yet they were pretty respectable

The guy won 400 games as coach

Won head coach of the year at two different power five confrencesa

What is wrong with him

So, facilities or no, who do the recruiting gurus think gets a talent infusion sooner -- NY/NJ guy like Masiello or Rice OR. P5 outsider like Sendek.

Interesting to see Thamel mention Mick Cronin (makes $2.2 mill at Cinci) for one of the jobs. Ah, wishful thinking.

For comedy, the worst name I've seen mentioned for the job by a national writer is Dino Gaudio. Yes, in 3 years at Wake he was 17-13, 24-7 and 20-11, but he really underwhelmed with Skip Proesser's recruits. I think some guys just scan the ESPN roster and make stuff up.

Interesting to see how many time Buzz Williams' name came up in that article. Is he really looking to leave VTech so soon?
very good coach - from Texas area - Oklahoma St will throw money at him

Rutgers does not need to hire a HC whose record is just about .500.
Arizona state fired him and they certainly do not run an athletic program like Rutgers.
If he was so good he would still be at Arizona State.
In general I think the hire should have a good winning % and should have experience in a good league(A10) not the MAC or American East.
I think the Michigan assistant with his background in the B10 at both Michigan and Iowa might be an exception.
I also think the GW coach also maybe a good choice.

.

His career win % is .586 Don but, as usual, you just go and make shit up! Also, when you take into account the FACT that he took over 3 programs that needed major overhauls, at the time, NEARLY .600 WIN % is something that nobody here at Rutgers should look upon without anything other than smiles, smiles, and more smiles!

The names listed would not excite fans, recruits or donors because they are low budget and lack the cache to stop the futility .Unless a coach like Sendek is hired Rutgers might as well keep Jordan for another year .Its the lesser of two evils for a program that has no relevance in college basketball right now.

Last time I saw Dino Gaudio, his Wake team with three future long-time NBA players, lost in the NCAA's in Miami to--Cleveland State, coached by the wrongfully fired Gary Waters, who were huge underdogs that won the crowd over. Cannot believe how overmatched they were, especially inside, but they did it. Dino Gaudio, is indeed comedy relief. Would not have him coach a grammar school team.

After reading Thamel's article, it looks like Oklahoma State's Travis Ford, owed $10M if sent packing, might be Rutgers best value as a hire. While waiting for Rutgers Big Ten full membership money, he could get Rutgers back on track working for less than Big Ten coaching money. He has coached in the Northeast at UMass and succeeded.

I really wish that people would stop making this statement about keeping Eddie for another season. Most here believe that statement is a non starter.

Ford is ok by me

100% agree

1984 and RUJMM78 ... Just curious. Do you pay for season tickets and parking tags?

Not for BASKETBALL..Not anymore..and what does that have to do with it? I give plenty to Rutgers. I'll give even more when they hire somebody I have confidence will coach and recruit. And when they make a serious investment to Rutgers basketball. NOT another experiment coach.

I think our buget for a new coach and staff is greater than assumed.

Me too. Not crazy big, don't get me wrong, but "hire the right guy who will come here and give him enough for an equally good coaching staff, et al..."

Did not realize Travis Ford has taken OSU to the tournament 5x. He was at UMass before OSU? We could do worse.

His 9 seasons at ASU he was 159-137 thats .537%If so good why did ASU fire him.?Nothing made up.Is the PAC 12 as tough as B-10?No

Another way to put is not to hire a HC from the MAC or America East or an A-10 who is just over .500%.I like the idea of UMich assistant 7 years at Michigan and 3 at Iowa.that experience would be helpful .

Experience that sadly doesn't including being a head coach, the head coach at Rutgers, a program that hasn't made the NCAAs since 1991, a program in the northeast. This isn't like football. We have 10 schools from the Big East to compete with for recruits, half the A10, etc.

Assistants are undefeated. That's what makes them attractive.

Dont listen to him...he wants Eddie back and is on record saying there is a zero percent chance he is canned
Just to be clear the main reason I want Eddie back next season is because we would or will not be able to hire a component coach. I don't believe that anyone but Eddie is better like I did with Flood. It is a waste of money to buyout Eddie and hire ANY of the names that are being talked about. None of them will succeed without upgrades to facilities so we will be having the exact same conversation in 3 years and we will be out two million in buyout money for Eddie and then need another 2 million for the new guy. I would rather save the money on Eddies buyout and hope that by the end of next season we have a SET date on construction for the practice facility. We also then save 2 million dollars of buyout money on Eddie. Those two things would give us a chance to hire a good staff. That should be the plan. I also said that these last few blowouts might make that impossible to do which in the end is bad for us.
