***'18 Visitor Today***

Woo Hoo thanks Rich! Free board info from the mods!

I think we shoudl hopeful because Brandin Knight has a GREAT relationship with the AAU coach for the Fab 5. That information was a direct quote from the AAU coach after Knight was hired by Rutgers.

Just find a spot and hire the AAU coach.

You would have to do that before this season to be able to get the kid in 2018.

@Russ Wood , the '18 Fab 5 will sign next summer/fall and arrive in the summer of 2018 for that season......that's 2 years. If Rutgers does not do it Seton Hall will... they did it with Tiny Morton to get the NYC guys. I'm pretty sure SH got Whitehead and others in the Fall... then announced the hiring of Tiny the next spring/summer. it was a package deal.

Whitehead committed to Seton Hall in November 2013. Morton was hired at SH Sept 9, 2014.

Was there a deal in place back in 2013? Certainly. Seton Hall was very creative. If Rutgers did it that way it might work. But for all I know, the NCAA may have tightened up the rule.

I would be interested in seeing if there would be any fallout from a Nike sponsored program (Rutgers) hiring a coach from an Under Armour sponsored AAU program.

Do it. Maybe the coach wants to be associate AD.

I think there are certain restrictions about the positions within a coaching staff/athletics department that you can place a HS/AAU coach at a college. And then there are further recruiting restrictions based upon that placement, I believe.

Only restriction is it has to be one of the three main assistants, not a DOBO or lower. St John's got bit by that a few years back when Lavin hired a NYC coach as a minor assistant and then couldn't recruit any of the HS or AAU kids he was involved with.

Believe there might be a 2 year recruiting restriction also if it's an AAU coach...

Moe Hicks from Rice HS. I believe St. John's couldn't recruit Kadeem Jack because of Hicks past ties to Rice HS.

I can't recall a ball coach who went for high profile players like Coach Pikell

Mike Rice paraded a plethora of top players through here his first season, like Rakeem Christmas and was hard after Rondae Jefferson and Tyler Roberson. I love what Pikiell is doing, and I hope he can land players of this caliber. He's doing great.

What separates Rice and Pikiell, in my opinion, so far in terms of recruiting is staffs. Rice hired people who were considered rising stars in Cox and Macon, while Pikiell has the most high major experienced staff I can remember with Hobbs and Knight.

Rich can we get an update on the visit?
Not trying to steal Rich's thunder but Louis King text me today that he "thought the campus was great The dorms were nice and they have a lot of activities around campus." Below is the rest of our exchange (forgive any grammar or mispellings, it's a cut and paste from the text exchange and you know how kids text...or maybe you don't lol):

Q: What is the Rutgers coaches recruiting pitch to you?
A: That i could come to the school and be the face of the 2018 class. That i also will get all of the playing time necessary to get me to the next level as long as I was willing to work hard. That they also wanted to make sure i was successful off the court and that they wanted to make sure I received my degree.

Q: Which schools are starting to stand out to you?
A: Well Seton hall,VCU,Maryland,Indiana and UConn are all working hard. And now Rutgers

Q: How do you think Coach Pikiell is doing recruiting NJ talent since he got to Rutgers?
A: I think he is doing fine going after really good talent in the area
