2017 basketball walk on-Luke Nathan

I don't believe the NCAA permits kids to accept a scholarship and commit before the first day of their freshman year in HS. A 2021 kid would currently be in the 8th grade, so I'm gonna guess Nathan is a 2017 prospect.

Can't tell you much about this situation.

Wasn't heavily reported anywhere.

My take- Pikiell wants someone that is very coach able. If they are coach able, he can elevate their play faster than any typical 4/5 star player.

Changed it. Just very confused at the moment. Nathan could very well be a walk on.

He's most likely a preferred walk-on. Which sometimes means he or his family may have some tie to the university. If not, it is a kid who is probably good enough to get D2 or LM D1 offers but just really wants to attend Rutgers. Absolutely zero wrong with that.

I came across this today:

None of the ususual suspects have commented on this guy. Luke Nathan. Is he a walk-on or scholarship guy? Is he RU Newark or RU D1?

could have scored more, except for his teammates stopping him [winking]

All in good fun, welcome aboard Luke [cheers]

I coached against him in high school the last few years . He's from Randolph , about 6'9 or so. Big boy . Not a scholarship player , this would have to be a walk on . He's very skilled and can hit the 15 footer as well . Needs to add strength and not the most explosive kid .

Yes I see that he is any where from 6'7" to 6'9". He averaged 13 ppg for Randolph which I think was 20-7 this past season. Looking at some video on him he does hit jumpers from about 15 feet and in. In high school he did seem to block several shots each game but that was usually against kids a little smaller than him. Welcome to Nathan and hope he can help us a bit.

He can block shots . We held him in check when we played them for the most part as we beat them for two county titles . He needs to be more aggressive as he has done skill . Will definitely help out in practice and can come in to give some fouls if needed .

If he comes in and works his butt off, he will find role here. Not easy to find bigs to walkon, probably walking away from scholarship to come here. He will help right away in practice.

Obviously a walkon.....but, , in my dreams he develops into a Stretch 4 at 6'9

If I'm Coach Pikiell, I'm telling this guy to get in the gym and start shooing 3's....a lot of 3's.

I was thinking the same thing. If you are 6-9 with some skills you have to have offers elsewhere??

Any time a kid this tall walks into your room and says I want to walk on for your team, you are happy.

He seems humble, and coachable. Different than a four of five star kid who doesn;t listen to 3/4 of the stuff a coach says. Who knows, he may see 10 minutes down the line or more. He will be a sponge, and if he stays, he might be used.

Let's go Nathan!

A high post center win range even as a walk on can be developed the a valuable situation role player with S&C and player
Development through superior coaching

This is a GREAT pickup.

1)Its great to have a scout team big man so the big men starters can practice their sets instead of having to divvy it up because there is no one to practice against.

2)Now we have that emergency player so when the centers are in foul trouble early he can steal a minute or two for us.

First and most importantly,....welcome Luke.

Second, I am hopeful and believe the days of walk ons playing meaningful minutes here is ending as Pike fills open spots and gets his kids here.

Luke is a legit measured 6'10 in socks, had an offer from Columbia and had all the Patriots and Ivy's interested. Would have had offers from all those schools if he went to a big time basketball HS. Just didn't put up big numbers bc he got triple teamed every game and hs officials are clueless on how to cover a big against smaller guys.

He's a preferred walk on.

If he had an offer from Columbia and interest from Patriot and Ivy league teams I think he might be a huge plus for us. It also seems as if he must have grown from 6'7" to 6'10". I think he just might help us more than we might expect over these next four years.
