Basketball Rutgers Basketball defeats Monmouth 98-81

That Davis to Derkack to Martini for the backdoor layup late in the game was straight out of the movie Hoosiers.

Pike even kind of looks like Hackman.

Honestly, I'm not concerned about Monmouth scoring 81 points. Bashir shot out of his mind. Kudos to the kid, but no one on average shoots 67% from 3 points. He had himself a night. We still won by 17 points. And the game was never in jeopardy. If anything, if Bashir has another year or so of eligibility, Pike should go after him. LOL!

This.

Did the team get sloppy in the second half? Yes. There were three freshman on the floor playing in their third (and in Ace's case, first) ever college game. The game was still nowhere near in doubt despite Bashir pulling his best Tracy McGrady impression. People need to relax. These are necessary learning experiences.

Cut jwill and Jmike so pike can’t screw this up. Good hard working young man but with these 2 superstars they can not play minutes on this team.

JMike is the quickest guy on the team, can guard 94 feet and run the break. JWill is a big experienced guard and a leader. All intangibles needed on this team.
How did JMike look against bashir?

they give this team ZERO offensively with Ace and Dylan dominating the ball. Who are you giving them minutes over???
Hayes are best shooters
Dercack playmaker
Acuff when healthy
Definitely not over Ogbole Lathan and Martini.

No minutes for them we are better with out them! Anyone miss jwill tonight or even think about him?

This team has a lot of potential.

But I think Pike needs to bring in someone who has won championships in the NBA to talk to the team about the difference between talented and championship-level. If this team wants to reach its full potential for the season, the players, especially the young ones, need to stop having these loss-of-focus situations.

They would’ve beat St. John’s except for a lack of focus and intensity when they had built a lead. They would’ve won by 30 tonight except for a lack of focus and intensity when they had built a lead. It’s a pattern that repeats with young players and, in my experience coaching, requires a lot of attention early on by the coaches and sometimes a bit of a shock to the system.

So you looked his game plan for Bashir? Let the one guy who can hurt you repeatedly get open shots. Great defense.

I’m not a basketball coach. When a guy routinely puts top 10 defenses out there I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt when his very young team plays questionable defense early in the season.

In general I think it’s silly when fans bash the game plan of a coach with a great defensive track record every time some guy gets hot.

A lot of glass half empty fans at Rutgers.

I like Pike, but it wasn’t the young guys playing questionable defense. He had one player gashing them, and should have had a player shadowing him at all times. Pike made an active decision to not clamp down on Bashir, it was a coaching fail.
