2017 commit E. Lopez show a lot of class

Will not get into agreeing or disagreeing with a protester's reasoning BUT can I ask: Do you believe in the First Amendment?

This implies that all those that are taking a knee do not have class. Yet, I bet most of them would still die for this country if called to serve. Think about that and ask yourself where do you think their loyalties lay? I doubt that they hate the country so much that they just want to piss everybody off by taking a knee.
I personally will always stand for the national anthem and will continue to drop whatever I am doing whenever I hear those words, but the close-mindedness of those criticizing these demonstrators for trying to bring these social issues to light is exactly what is prompting them to protest to begin with.

There's a better way to bring the issues to light than doing something to divide the country even further, in my opinion.

Every American has THE RIGHT to peaceful protest. I may not agree with their choice either but I will not criticize. Protection under the law to do what they are doing is exactly what America is all about.

To deny any American their rights.... thats classless (oh, and unconstitutional).

When you put on a uniform you are no longer just representing yourself.
At your job you are not just representing yourself.
You do not have a "constitutional right" to say/do anything you want in those situations.
That these people do not understand that fact is just more evidence that they are idiots.

But the NFL won't do anything unless it hurts their $$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
The school board in Camden won't do anything for fear of riots
or visits from the Al Sharptons of the world.

Hey coach: Your house in Camden is worth less than a house across the street because
that other house is not in Camden.

Can we PLEASE stop with this stupid argument. I am yet to hear someone say they shouldn't be ALLOWED to do this or be jailed for it. It's total strawman.

Doesnt the organization then have the right to choose if you may continue to represent them?

Racial injustice (valid or not) is what is dividing the country. Not the other way around. Dont blame a peaceful protest for the division... or for your discomfort for that matter.

Dividing it further..can't doubt that.

Freedom of speech my ass. This is disrespect to the country that affords them the ability to have freedom of speech. Rather than kneeling, they should research what the exact statistics are on this 'social issue', and learn very clearly that they are in the wrong. Statistics don't lie. Unfortunately, the ones that are often touted have been cherrypicked, and do not include the conclusive ones.

Hats off to Lopez

My house isn't worth as much as those 100 yards away in Beverly Park. I am kneeling every time I hear the anthem.

What if Kaepernick was a white supremacist who felt that whites were being dealt with unfairly in this country, and he decided to offer up a nazi salute during the national anthem. Would you still respect his exercising of his 1st Amendment rights? I doubt it.

Pick another avenue that doesn't disrespect all that have fallen to protect our freedom. To me he is a disrespectful, hypocritical POS. If he is so concerned about oppression, he should donate 95% of his salary to help the oppressed in this country, and volunteer his time to work at homeless shelters in San Francisco, when he's not playing football. Let him walk out onto the field before the game starts, and make this pledge over the PA system. That would be a statement. Not holding my breath.

yet you're criticizing their right to criticize... see how this works, and now you can rebut that I'm criticizing your right to criticize the criticizers.

This has to take the prize for the most ridiculous assertion of the day. Sad to see that some would trivialize a citizen's right to peacefully protest in such a crass manner. You sir, do not get it and never will. Sad that all of the feigned outrage over a perceived slight to the flag is nowhere to be found at the almost monthly mass shootings we as a society experience.

A salute that represents a dictator who systematically murdered nearly 7 million people - yes, that would change my perception. I dont respect white supremacists. They promote hate. It is seriously ridiculous to compare to taking a knee.

That said, there would be nothing I could do about it beside make sure that person doesn't represent me in government.

Having lived in the city for so long, I've seen the craziest sh!t. Sometimes it makes me uncomfortable, or angry... but mostly I'm reminded that it's a free country.

Right, because I'm the coach who got interviewed and said exactly what I was sarcastically making fun of. Are you dumb too or just failed to actually read the article?

Lots of people don't respect a person who openly called out cops..depicting them as pigs..etc.

Those following him will be criticized.

Whether I agree with the right to protest or not is besides the point. One of the main reasons why the Pennsauken houses are $90k more then the Camden houses across the street is because Pennsauken actually do a better job keeping up with their services, maintenance, recreation, etc compared to the third world like services provided in Camden. Thats what happens when the people of Camden vote for their favorites instead of the most qualified over and over for decades. These protests looks to be misplaced if people REALLY wanted to do something about whats going on.

Interesting to see what hapens to Lopez at Wilson since he didnt join his teammates.

I didn't read the article nor do I intend to. My comment is more about the Fox News/Breitbart crowd (touché to your "free speech crowd") who always feel they own the issue of patriotism. In their view, how dare someone slight the good name of their beloved USA ( as in, "love it or leave it Johnny!") over something as ludicrous as racial injustice. How dare they protest something that you know not to be an issue. Do any of you realize that others perceive the world differently than you do? Clearly your prism is the accurate one, so how dare these agitators?? Get over yourselves.

Is that what that second string QB was doing wearing pig socks? He's so enlightened.

And if you are going to quote my post using it as an example of all that is wrong, you should read the article it was about before doing so.

You won't look so idiotic next time.

Consider me protesting my house isn't worth $50MM like those I drive by ever day. This is bull$hit!

It's not just this post. Newsflash, people read all of your other societal commentaries as well, clearly contributing to your sweeping popularity on this board, lol. And you can name call all you want it just enhances your already impeccable credibility.

I do, but there is a time and place and this was neither the time nor the place. Being in the military, I can say that I do not agree with the decisions made by the leadership of this nation, but I do not get in front of the soldiers and tell them that we are not going because I do not believe in the mission. I can voice my concerns all I want to myself or during the briefing about how to handle the mission, but in front of the soldiers I will follow the leadership, Period. That is the major difference and that is why we have rules. When it is just you fine, when it involves others - NO. You can pee out your back door all you want. The minute you have neighbors the rules set in. It is not all about you.

Brilliant posting. But don't even bother wasting your time.

It's always the same posters with the same views saying the same things over and over when it comes to race relations around here. They don't come here to discuss, they just come to vent. There's little objectivity when these threads pop up. Theyll never "get it" nor do they want to. It's much easier and more comfortable for people to just pretend that everyone else's reality is the same is theirs, and that any issue that THEY haven't personally faced is somehow an illusion. The result is pages of unproductive back and forth of bickering. There are better ways to spend a Saturday night.

Says the guy commenting on my post, but not reading the article. I don't know you or your posting history, but I hope it gets more meaningful than your contributions in this thread. And again, I'd read articles before making comments about them.

Sadly, this is great advice.. Great post, bud.
