2020 Southern Scuffle Update Thread

Sammy is going nowhere. Nick made a choice that was best for him. What is best for the wrestler and this program long term is for Sammy to stay firmly in place at 133.

Edit: Just saw people were referring to Nick returning next season. I still think Nick has moved on to the next stage of his life, but will be interesting to see what happens if he does return.
Not sure about that ...NS is a competitive guy who knows a National title is sitting out there for the taking ...don’t think it will be this year but maybe next ...if this year that will be interesting to see how the decide that issue

Would you rather have Suriano for 1 more year next year or Alvarez for the next three years. No redshirt permitted.

I will take the guy that is the best teammate and most unselfish. Who would you take?

Sammy went from hunter to hunted really quickly.

Most unselfish would have lipari still on the team.

Yeah, now the real tests for Sammy begin. Like you said, easier to be the hunter than the hunted. He won't sneak up on anyone anymore. He has to be ready for everyone's best match. I have a good feeling he will be.

Is having both not an option?

In this strange hypothetical, you still take Suriano for 1 year. He’s a guaranteed AA on his worst day and a national champion on his best day. Alvarez has a bright future and had a great tournament but he’s nowhere near the caliber wrestler Suriano is.

Redshirt is permitted. I would love to see NS back next year and Sammy redshirting. Hopefully NS leaves with an RU degree also. $$$$

This is an example why the SKWC is critical to the success of Rutgers Wrestling. Sammy works out and trains with Tyler Graff on a daily basis. Graff is a World Team Member and a 4 time All American.

The SKWC pays Graff’s salary. We need to keep people like Tyler to attract the best recruits.

Please support the SKWC. Join the Pin Pool and buy RAFFLE tickets. You could win a trip to the Kentucky Derby, the Final Four, The Wrestling National Championship or a $6,000 vacation of your choice.

THIS! Please support SKWC in any way you can. Rutgers University can not pay for these Resident Athletes to work with R wrestlers. Only SKWC can get them by hiring them, which takes money & a lot of fundraising! We need YOUR help. All contributions are welcome, no amount is too small. You can join the Pin Pool for $1. Buy a raffle. Become a member for $25. Join the Boom Club! Let’s goooooo!

That’s how the top, elite programs do it...with well-funded Wrestling Clubs. If we want the same for RU wrestling (to be a yearly top, elite program), we need to support & fund the SKWC. Donations are tax deductible. SKWC is a 501(c)3 federal tax-exempt nonprofit organization.

Please consider SKWC when making a donation. Thank you.

Go RU!

What is the "Pin pool?" Here at UNI we have a thing called "Pledges for Pins," which raises significant money for the Panther wrestling team and Panther wrestling club, and I was wondering if it's the same idea.

Most likely they are. You pledge say $1 up to $100+ per pin for the season. The pins are tallied at EOS and payment is tax deductible.

yes, that's the same and it raises a ton of money for UNI, especially when we've had folks like Dylan Peters and Jay Schwarm in our lineup over the past few years!
