FB Recruiting 2022 OL Dantae Chin commits to Rutgers Football

Going to go with what I saw on this short tape and take into account it is heavily weighed towards sending the best. All things aside he shows an ability to stay on his man with some decent tenacity. He is light on his feet and yet he does not appear undersized in comparison to the competition. I have maintained our needs are O line ( you can’t have too many) WR need speed , hands and some 6’2”-6’4” types 2 interior linemen and T.E. ( hello portal) . Year 4 should be the year we compete on level playing field. If Gavin produces ( it’s on him to win the job) it will make these past 7 years forgettable. Happy Holidays.

Bring in the B1G size and let guys compete to sort out who’s a starter, backup, or is better served on the DL. Just bring in the beef!

Found this:
Check out Dantae Chin's Dantae Chin 21-22 season highlights on Hudl
Only watched 2/3s of the video. And LOL at a lot of it because he looked to have 75 pounds on most of the guys he was blocking and kept driving them into the ground. He did well against the one similarly large player, too - so not just shoving little kids around. He was so much bigger and stronger that two of the opposing players got hurt on the highlighted plays. Not dirty play either; just mismatches.

He looks pretty athletic for such a big kid. So I can see potential. As the 7th OL in the class, we can afford to take a chance. Figure he'll redshirt and probably not see the field for two seasons. But if he works hard and gets coached up, he could be a monster by 2024 (or 2025).

He doesn't even have a profile on the leading recruiting sites.

Either he is the steal of the century like Neon Boudeax or he is the biggest reach of the Schiano 2.0 era.

Hollin Pierce wasn’t recruited by anyone. Didn’t get an offer anywhere. Walked-on at Rutgers. Schiano saw his talent, his raw intangibles, developed him, and now people within program think he’s a potential 1st rd draft pick

I trust Schiano’s eye for talent a heck of a lot more than any “recruiting site”

And to add, he’s been doing it for a long time.

I wouldn’t be surprised if, of all coaches, he has the most walk-ons, 2 star and 3 star guys into NFL players (per years coached) of anyone

You just look at the sheer amount it NFL players developed between 2005-2009 (many hardly recruited at all) and it blows your mind.

Isn't that the early one and is he set to sign? That would be great.
Yes. He should sign, given that we’ve been recruiting him for a month. Is there a risk Miami swoops in with a last minute offer? Yes. But given that they’re a mess now, I love our chances.

Rachad Wildgoose comes to mind. . . .
Not saying that will happen here with Greg around. Just remember we were his first P5 offer (maybe?), and after the offers poured in from others, he bolted. Wildgoose recently signed to Jets practice squad. Maybe he really wanted to be in NJ after all.

I expect a redshirt year for development and with the OL recruit, most are gambles .
Even some top OL prospects need a year or to develop

In an ideal world, we’d have enough quality OL and DL that most wouldn’t see the field for at least the first couple years here - instead getting plenty of S&C and development before we start relying on them to perform. That’s the sort of depth we need to compete in the Big Ten East.

What about every school in the nation that recruits Fla?

I’m surprised that this wasn’t a last day offer; given that this is the kid’s first season playing football. I would have preferred a scholarship saved for the portal. We don’t have the luxury of taking on 3-4 yr projects

Great to get OL talent! Seven seems like a lot, though. Wonder if DeCrocce will greyshirt as he recovers from ACL injury or whether some OL will move back to DL (E.g., Wright, Brown or Rainey) at some point?

Criticize his game day coaching if you like, but Schiano has hit more than he’s missed on reach recruits like this. Kaleb Johnson started early in his career didn’t he? No issue at all taking a chance here.

He should be ready to go after a redshirt year. Just needs to get stronger.

Actually, and hopefully, he could out to be an OL version of Kemoko Turay, who played only 1 or 2 years of HS football.

Yeah, Greg did a good job with Kemoko. 😉 (Yes, I know that is not what you meant, and that is an excellent comparison). Are we allowed to say the former guy did something good, or is that forbidden like it is elsewhere?

Huh? I’m sorry but 1 yr of HS ball and a year of practice and gym work does not create a BiG level OT.
The one year of HS ball doesn’t matter. Kid is playing at a very high level and that’s what matters. One year of S&C and one year spent with Panagos and he’ll be ready to go to contribute. He’s got the attributes to be successful. He might be the best get of the class.

This kid may be a stud - rankings don't matter. All that matters is who recruited the kid - teams that win regularly for the most part do it with the players that many programs wanted. That's why our QB results have more often than not been sub-par - we have only gotten QBs with multiple offers from top programs very very rarely. As to this kid, he does not have a single D1 offer per Rivals and 247- power 5 or otherwise - but he still could turn out to be a contributor and because this class is otherwise filled with talent (including on the OL) , taking a gamble on this big kid from a high pedigree football state isn't a bad thing.
