People watch the Ohio State game

Colorado on a cable channel. Network channels always win. Wijn more and we get on network channels more and get higher ratings than on cable channels.

Maybe hire Taylor Swift as marching band leader and TE coach. Network appearances and ratings skyrocket... win or lose.

CBS with the top-rated game in all 3 major time slots. Not sure how the selections work, but I would be curious if Fox purposely chose the Big 12 game over the Big 10 game in the noon slot or if that was a somehow a contractual obligation.

I think the choice was KSU Texas or OU Ok St. They might not have had a first pick this week.

SHI getting their money's worth
here is the thing for Rutgers- we continue on this path- let's say 7+ wins and then a bowl- do it again a 2nd year, when that 3rd year comes around- you won't be able to find a seat available to buy.
NY/NJ is a huge fair weather area. And not really in a bad way- but we just have too much other crap going on in our lives.
But, you start winning- this area goes crazy.

CBS had a B1G game in the noon slot. Would imagine that was a week worked out to not have a Fox B1G game at same time, especially when it appears CBS had earlier pick.

demand and scarcity of tickets... which is why I always thought increasing required donations was short-sighted... the more seats you can count on being used every game no matter what.. the more scarce the available tickets and when demand increases.. the easier it is to cash in... price the new tickets higher.. when things are in demand they don't care where they sit as long as they get inside.

It is a numbers game.. it is easier to sense scarcity when half the stadium is already full of fans you can count on to show up. You can hit the sold-out thing a bit easier.. which will drive up demand and prices in Jersey. But if the available seats can absorb some wave of demand and still there are more seats available... then that doesn't drive that competition thing for a scarce resource.

If you want the high rollers.. build the luxury boxes on the other side already.

...The beauty of it is that all those eyeballs saw RU go toe-to-toe with the #1 team in the country and give them all they could handle. -And if not for a precious few plays, our Knights could have pulled off the upset. They were right there, and all the viewers watching saw that.

Rutgers football did itself proud last Saturday. Now, let's take care of business over the next 3 weeeks...and then on to "R" bowl game!

OSU is probably the biggest draw in CFB in recent times and if not #1, it’s probably #2.
It's No. 1.

Take this ranking with a grain of salt. It states Syracuse has a larger fan base than Auburn and Tennessee. 🤣

While not a contractural obligation (at least this season)..there’s a “handshake deal” between FOX, CBS and NBC to do everything possible to not have two B1G games head to head at the same time.

So because CBS had a noon window, fox did everything possible to put their BIG selection at 4

It is why we should never expanded. Yes build the Club Box etc. Upgrade the facilities. Put the student section in front of the hill and keep the cannon on the hill. We have never had a real actual sellout since the expansion. Too much ticket inventory.

One of the biggest blunders was expanding too quickly. Agree.

???
We’ve had several real sellouts since the expansion.
The opener against Cinci (ugh).
Penn State and Michigan 2014 come to mind as well.

There were a lot of giveaways especially for, surprisingly, Penn State. You maybe right about Cincy.
And 1000% ugh on that Cincy game. It was the worst opener ever for me and many others. The biggest letdown!

We would still be in the AAC if we followed this logic. The expansion helped get us into the league and we have had several sellouts since 2009. A couple standing room only in 2014 and 2015.

No it didn't! Go watch the video of Delaney on the day we signed the Big Ten contract. He didn't even know we expanded. The 2nd misconception when we joined the Big Ten. The #1 rampant (false) rumor was that the Big Ten would force Rutgers to play at the Meadowlands at least once a year. Rutgers applied before expansion. They were likely going to be approved until Nebraska said yes. There were no visits to Rutgers by the Big Ten after expansion before we were approved.

"It was not the recent success of the football team that mattered to the Big Ten, although that certainly helped ease concerns. It was not the $100-million expansion of SHI Stadium, either, that made Rutgers a possible candidate — none of the facilities, in fact, “were considered or discussed during the run-up to expansion,” Delany said.

It mattered that Rutgers was part of the prestigious Association of American Universities, and that its profile as a large, land-grant, public university fit with the other 12 members of the conference. But, above all else, Rutgers was on the Big Ten’s short list of expansion candidates for one reason.

It was the market.

Right, he wanted a new stadium because he still thought we had the stadium you described and we told him no, we just expanded and spent 100M.

Yeah never really believed Delany in that one. No way we would have been invited to the B1G without demonstrating commitment by doing that.

How does our game with OSU compare to OSU's ratings other weeks?
The week before Ohio vs Wisconsin was 4.87 2.6
When OSU played undefeated PSU the number was 9.96 5.3
Ohio or Alabama is usually one or two but Bama is down this year although TN game did good

Hard to believe anything a guy says when he doesn't know the name of the Big Ten commissioner.

Fantastic read. Thanks for posting.

“We didn’t tell the Big East until we were walking out the door,” Purcaro said. “Here’s your letter. Here’s your check. Buh-bye.”
