A new look to downtown New Brunswick

I had to read this over twice to wrap my brain around what they're saying about this Hub site. The J&J exec is calling it transformational. That is saying a lot coming from the world's largest health care co., & they have the track record with DEVCO to prove their credentials in these arenas. Great partnership opportunity for RU on so many levels.

There was major concern on this board that Murphy might not be pro Rutgers. I don’t post a lot but I assured everyone that I had inside information on this one that Murphy loves Rutgers and will push an agenda favorable to the University and the area.

If he can pull this one off it would really solidify his commitment to Rutgers and the New Brunswick area.

Where is the site they’re talking about? Or is this where they demolished all the buildings across from the train station?

Yeah that’s the site. I thought they already had approved plans to build massive commercial/apartment and retail space there. What am I missing that makes this unique?

That's still what they're doing. They tried to be an Amazon finalist but that didn't work. It's not really new besides different renderings.

That’s great! It’s about time we had a pro-RU governor.

I still do not understand, is the project accross from the train station now not happening? As another poster mentioned, that space was high rise condos and retail space.

Regardless if you like him or not, he does seem to like his state school better then ND!
But now, please get us a different contractor then Xanadu...
Blame the 4 different owners, lawsuits brought by the Giants and Jets, as well as it generally just being a bad idea for the delay in this thing getting done before you blame the contractors working on the site. And yes, I work for a contractor that has done work there. The financing is finally there to bring it home, but what a cluster#uck it's been.

It is happening. They're spinning this as some new project and apparently trying to take credit. The current area looks like a large sand box and has for months.

did somebody say arena? lol

Did they just coin the term "innovation hub?" Now we have a new cliche. How about lining up some funding for the project before having a presser whose purpose is to pat on the back a group of partners who will now spend years trying to find someone else to pay for it. Hello, Feds.

So they had a big meeting to basically say, building site for sale. I thought they had a developer for the land, I guess not.

Never understood the project, and now it seems outdated. Contractors do very good and very fast work in Newark all the time though, so it ain't on them.

This is obviously the precursor to the new downtown arena!!

Hoping against hope that if there is to be an arena that it will be a fantastic one - well thought out - genuinely versatile - one that could host major events - athletic & entertainment - and no stupid mistakes...
AND - the along with a fantastic arena - there will be an even greater transportation / logistical plan - the kind that wins praise & awards - near perfect connection to rail lines and truly genius resolutions for easy in & easy out for vehicle traffic.

Now that Ferren Mall is no longer an option...Sears site is perfect.

Too bad it'll lose that downtown charm though.
