A NIL Deal to Support - Ron Harper Jr

Think bigger picture and longer term. Any conference can increase the amount they charge for broadcast rights for all their schools (and every school in any conference can raise the prices of tickets, concessions, and memorabilia, logo wear, etc.) to offset donations that go directly to players and not to the schools.

For the non-revenue sports, there will be ways to get scholarships funded. Speedo could become the Official Sponsor of the B1G Conference Swim teams, with all the proceeds going toward swimmers scholarships. Nobody has to be left out of the windfall that will come from sponsorship fees.

I’m sure there are hundreds of other ways that this NIL thing can evolve into funding for every athletic scholarship and non-athletic ones as well. The outcome you’re imagining doesn’t have to be the only one.
Not sure how the sneaker thing plays out. Maybe that is a positive. Players are going to wear whatever sneaker they want and ask to get paid for it.

Bagmen are legal and prices are public knowledge. I’d think breaking law kept a lot of players and actors from participating. That changes now that it is legal.
Bagman are not legal, a company will only offer individual NIL deals to players who will make them money, and a player they want their company to be associated with.
You can keep thinking 4 star recruits who don’t see the field will be signing individual NIL deals …not gonna happen

Hope Ron sells a ton of shirts and makes some nice royalties as a result. Absolutely no issue with this. Imagine being against being compensated for your hard work.

The overwhelming scenario of

favored nations, no problem….every linemen gets the same until the charity reneges.
The OL at Texas will be deep. 3rd string gets 50K too.

I’d think FN (my new acronym) will be looked at by NCAA or whatever bodies govern this better than paying different people different money at different times. That would be seen more as a transaction.

I also worry about organized crime getting involved.

NIL is here to stay whether we like it or not and I’m happy for Ron and plan on buying a few of these. As the saying goes “ if it makes money it makes sense “so good for Ron.

Pre 2021 the way to legally compete was facilities. Now it is NIL.

Spending resources to fundraise for a facility right now is a complete waste. 4 star player is going where the NIL money is.
The NIL brand of a college player is correlated to the brand of the school but I don’t see how this situation is related. Nobody is choosing rutgers or any other school because they hope to hit a half court shot against number 1 and cash in. That opportunity could exist everywhere.

Cashing on half court shot by selling tee shirts is nothing. Knowing that a Rutgers basketball player gets $25,000 thru “XXXXX” vs a Wisconsin player getting $100,000 thru “Badgers fund” is what is about.

As this evolves coaches are going to be paid for X and Os and not for recruiting. I can see coaching salary budgets coming down over time.

Who’s going to recruit?
Who’s going to target the players?
Who’s going to offer playing time and talk about campus life, show them where they live and talk about facilities.
You’ve gone off the walls…(:
I can’t take it anymore, gotta get out of this thread….love ya Green, let’s beat SH today
It’s really funny because Geo is totally against pay for play, he championed for true NIL.
He’d be totally against everything you claim is going to happen

Anyone who talks about ROI or "market value" when trying to argue that NIL won't (or hasn't already) go off the rails isn't paying attention.

But it's still going to happen. Just because Geo is naive (or selfish, or both) doesn't mean the rest of the world is going to stop turning.
