Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan will be formidable and insurmountable opponents for many years. They are monster programs, incredible recruiting machines, with amazing resources and facilities. It is reasonable to say that Rutgers will never catch up with these top 15 programs at any time in the near future. But they don't have to to have very successful seasons.
If Rutgers cannot outrecruit the big three, then they can try to outrecruit MD,Indy, and Penn State AND all the teams in the West division. With better recruiting and coaching, Rutgers can defeat Indiana, Maryland and Penn State from their division each year, and they can beat the three crossdivision opponents each year as well as the three out of conference teams they will play.
So rather than obsess about how Rutgers can win against the Big Three, let's focus on winning the rest of our games, have consistent 9-3 seasons and win in an upper tier bowl that will raise our records to 10-3.
10-3 is pretty good even if your three losses are to the elite of the conference.
