A Striking Picture

One of my friends from ROTC is stationed in England. One of his wingman took this picture last week. He's in the navigator position in an F15 Strike Eagle. It's a little tough to see it, but that sign says Rutgers.

Technically, he's a Weapons Systems Officer.

"WSOs like it in the rear."
 
"Wherever they can fit it in" is the response I've heard. Referring to how many different air frames to which they can be assigned I'm sure.

Back in my day there were non-flight crew positions for EWOs as well, so maybe that's why I never heard that one. My personal recollection of the EWOs I knew is that you never knew where they were, partially because of duty requirements and mostly because they would leverage that to get out of doing any actual work.
