PM really played his game the last two games. The long pass to Cliff for the bucket and behind the back to Cam were gorgeous passes. PM off the ball has helped his game a lot. He’s also a more confident shooter. He’s clearly been playing in pain. Frankly, this whole group is full of warriors, but wanted to give PM props because he needed a week like this week

Good idea to give a special place to praise PM. He was in a deep funk but the switch to a point forward role has rejuvenated his game. I like the move a lot and hope it continues next season, too.
Amen to him coming back...I posted elsewhere that I think there is a real good interaction between the young guys and the veterans on this team/in this program. I think Paul has been a significant part of that connection. GO RU!

My brother (another big RU fan) asked me a week ago if I want Paul back. I said, not as the starting PG. But he is a great fit in this role. Another guy that can keep the ball moving, set up his teammates for buckets (hello backdoor bounce pass to cutting Spencer today), and hit the 3. He also plays good help defense even if he is not a great one on one stopper. He brings a lot to the team.

A lot of other fan bases don't like Paul, especially Indiana. He's the hated white guy in the conference. But he's tough as nails and is obviously playing hurt.
You don't understand why he's hated by other fanbases? He's always flopping and crying, it's embarrassing and Rutgers fans would hate him if he played somewhere else too.

anyone saying they dont want Paul back next year are either a) emotional and too caught up in recency bias or b) not really sure what they're watching

I guarantee that Pike wants him back

and...while other fanbases might love to hate on Paul, I bet you most other teams/fanbases would love to have a kid like Paul in their program.

Half the players in the B1G flop...I've seen tons of guys going down with no contact and drawing charges because the refs are so fcking lazy and don't care to make the proper call.

Yes, props to him these last two days but I think in the long run (if he comes back) the team is better off with someone else in the starting lineup to make up for Caleb's departure on D in addition to Mag coming back. Yes, unpopular opinion I know and Pike would never bench Paul. And Hyatt's obviously in the doghouse. But I prefer:

Cliff
Cam
Mag
Simpson
Hyatt
Reserves: Davis, Oskar, Paul, Griffiths, Woolfolk

That should be a solid 10.

And if not Hyatt ahead of Paul, or if Paul leaves, then a 3 from the portal. I don't think Paul brings enough on defense to start. Despite his offensive stats, Purdue exploited his perimeter D today. Every team does. He's no better than Oskar on D, who showed some toughness.

You’re out of your mind.

Yes I know....but I think his popularity exceeds his contribution. And it was Simpson who injected life into the team, not Paul.

I bet you were one who thought we'd be better if Myles Johnson stayed, right ? Same thing. Favorite players falsely viewed as best players. That's how it works.

Embarrassment? Calling the kettle black, huh? Paul leaves everything on the court. Every coach wishes they had players like him.

So you think Agee and Dean were better than Myles? We obviously would have been better if Myles was Cliff's backup over those 2 last year

Oh yes, I absolutely agree we would have been better with Myles as a backup. But Pike wouldn’t do that to him just like he won’t do that with Paul. Fortunately, Myles left and Cliff was better right away. So was the team. As I said, in the long run I think it’s better to move on from Paul next year. Like with Myles, better if he stayed as a backup, but Pike won’t do that to him. So I hope he moves on.

Agree. I feel like we are going to find out something in the off-season and be like “ohhh that makes sense why he was playing like that” but him, Simpson, wolf, really everyone stepped up their games in Chicago. I still want us moving with cliff on PnR’s and not just straight dumping down and letting him make a play from the post, but kudos to the guys man. Left it all out there.

I’ll say it in a different way maybe you can understand: I think with Griffiths and Davis coming aboard and Mag coming back I think it will be a better team if less playing time for Paul. Higher level talent. Backup, yes. Starter no.

You’re entitled to your opinions here and about Schiano. In fact, I like reading your posts because my takes are always the complete opposite and you always erase any doubt I have about my own opinions.

Myles is a unique case where basketball was less important to him than academics. I think he could have accepted being a backup. He was at UCLA

Love Paul but some RU fans are so blinded by the glue/intangibles player narrative and you guys need to put down the crack pipe to realize that RU doesn’t win against Mich and gets blown out by Purdue today without the play of Simpson. For all the leadership and gutsiness of Paul the past few games, he has done very little to nothing offensively for the past month. Defensively he’s a liability. RU wins 2-3 more games with Paul scoring 8-10 pts in the past 6-7 games for a player on the court for 30 plus mins. Simpson should have been the starting point guard some time ago. Pike is loyal to a fault at times with seniors (McConnell included).

Would like Paul back but in a different role. Playing the four or off the bench. Simpson should start pg or be the the two guard with a lighting quick pg who can break down a defender, pass, shoot and play defense the full length of court. Don’t see Jalen Miller in future plans either.

GO RU

Agreed, he's that guy you love when he's on your team, hate when he's on any other team.
I love guys like that.

You're welcome !

Embarrassment? Calling the kettle black, huh? Paul leaves everything on the court. Every coach wishes they "had players like him except with more talent" FIFY. Nice role player, not Big10 starter. Popular, sure. Offense or defense, no.
