One big positive about Ash still working for OSU, is that he is learning how to prepare for a bowl game from one of the masters of winning bowl games, Urban Meyer.

Meyer has been head coach in 10 bowl games, and he has won 8 of them, including the College Football Championships last year, two BCS Championships, two Sugar Bowl victories, and a Fiesta Bowl Victory among them.

Ash has seen up close and personal the last two years just how Meyer prepares... and has his boys ready to play....and I can guarantee you Ash is taking notes.

This will no doubt come in handy for us when we next play in a bowl game. He'll know down to the second how to prepare his assistant coaches and his players, to have them ready to win on bowl gameday....and he can attribute much, if not most of that, to his current mentor.

That's not something that is valuabe right now, but will be in the near future.

Well, I'm sure he learned last year, on the way to a title, but I get what you're saying. Nothing wrong with a little more experience as such!

I cannot WAIT to watch tOSU in their bowl game.

I have never been a fan of theirs, but I am now.
Respect is the word.

I hope they shutdown ND.
That will be a nice footnote to Ash's career at tOSU, and give him 1 more bullet on the recruiting trail.

I imagine tons of RUTGERS fans, and many of our current and future recruits, will be checking him/them out.

To me, that is an advantage, despite what the naysayers say.
Maybe not as much as you'd like, but it is something.

For what it's worth, we have a situation where it is a CERTAINTY that regardless of the result of OSU's bowl game, at least a few moments of a national football broadcast on New Years Day will be talking about Ash and the future of the Rutgers program. A program that we can all admit has no business being mentioned on New Year's Day after the events of earlier in the Fall.

I'll happily take that, along with knowing that Chris Ash is a man of his word and a guy who sees his job duties through to completion.

He's doing everything he could be doing if he were in Piscataway. The guy is putting in 20-hour days. Get over it buddy.

Shouldn't have to get over it and fled Arkansas in a heartbeat. Want my coach all Rutgers all the time.

Sorry not drinking the kool aid. Want my coach here 24 hours a day.

I like a guy who finishes what he starts. After he wins massive at RU and gets offered an NFL role, he will stay and finish what he started before moving on.

+1. This will be excellent exposure, especially if they win big and the defense did well. But the thing I see is that at least Ash knows how to put in the hard work and can manage his time and tasks. Far cry better example than Flood, given what premium info about how that joker did things behind the scenes. SMH

I have to say that this is the first fan base I have ever heard complain and whine about an incoming coach completing his commitment to his current job. If the situation were reversed I cannot imagine the names Ash would be called if he left his job at Rutgers early for another job. Get over it and relax. It is not a big deal.

Maybe Ash can leave tOSU (Bowl game) like Schiano did three days before NSD. Everyone was pissed off at Greg about that ....now people are pissed that Ash is keeping his commitment.

Sorry, we don't have to get over anything, because our opinion differs from yours.... You will also note that there is no name calling here...... If some fans believe that him not being here hurts us a bit with this years recruiting, we have every right to discuss...... I have been here before, and seen a coach start late before with poor results for that recruiting class......

A TON of people will be watching OSU vs UND, those are two programs with two of the biggest fanbases in the USA. Rutgers will be mention a few times during that broadcast. Which would had never ever happen.

It also shows to his future players and staff that he is a man of his word and that loyalty and doing the right thing happens, even if it upsets a few poeople on this board.

These are the same idiots that complained about GS getting a promotion to the NFL. Let them be miserable.

Honestly,I do not remember the board reaction when Greg left for the Bucs, right before LOI day. Would be interested to hear from those that do remember.

Wrong IDIOT! very few people complained, many were shocked and disappointed but there was nothing to complain about.

Ash is hurting RU by not being here full time. That's the facts and people should be able to state their feelings on a coach who is getting paid by RU but working for OSU part time.

The part that bothers me is that he is working to make our divisional competitor look better while we wait for him to arrive. Everyday he does that we get worse... by comparison. I do realize he is honoring his commitment and protecting his future though.

the facts! im calling bull. Calling plays in a jan 1st bowl then donning a Houston hat helped in Hermann's ability to put together a top 25 class. Ash would literally be sitting around doing nothing here. Hes already calling recruits and hes already calling coaches there...what do you want him to do? visit players during the dead period.

I can have ash sitting in his house scratching his patootie all day calling recruits, or i could have ash get free air time after a great defensive performance on national TV on Jan 1st with a Rutgers hat on as reporters question him about how he will transition to coaching RU. Hmm....which one do i want. This choice is sooooooo hard!!

The facts.....BS.

If the NFL calls, chances are Ash will be bolting out of here as well. That's an entirely different situation.

With college, I'm glad to see him honoring his commitment to Ohio State and Meyer. If the pros call, it's doubtful he'd make them wait. Because they likely won't wait.

I would rather he been here from his announcement day, a bigger benefit IMHO

This.
What a reach some people are making by saying that HCCA is helping RU by getting Bowl preparation experience under Meyer ( which Ash has done already) vs. being at RU full time and giving 100% in building the program which includes learning the NJ recruiting territory and reaching out to the Coaches in the state.

...and you know this how? Just imagine where this experiment would be if those 20 hours were spent here like Schiano used to.

I hear your point, but I also tend to doubt he will finish the job here before moving on elsewhere.

It's a Catch 22 because it means he will have had success here.

Just go read the posts about how terrible it was the way Schiano left. That will answer your question. And probably the same posters complaining about Ash.

the timing of a coach leaving never seems good.... in our situation, Schiano left just before signing day, and when that happened we lost the
probable verbal of Fuller, but most other recruits were retained...... of course fans are always going to complain....

actually, no one knows if we are being hurt by him not here yet, or helped by being at the bowl game... we are never going to know if we maybe would have had 2 or 3 great verbals with him here already, so far we have none.... or some recruit sees him at the bowl game and is swayed by that...

I don't like it because I see little happening so far.

all we have is our opinions, everybody has a right to their own.

Poor comparison - gs finished the bowl game. It was 2 weeks, along with an 8 day search for a replacement. If GS left after NSD, now that would have been bad, pissing off new recruits and fans

i agree..the poster i responded to felt their opinion was "fact" so i wanted to show the other side of the argument.

I also don't know what recruits you people expect to commit right now. Can Ash have til at least January so that these kids have more than a month to get to know him? Or at least let him hire his staff. If his other staff members are in bowls or the nfl, so be it. I'm not one to rush staff hiring in hopes of getting 1-2 verbals (its not gonna happen..these kids have known other staffs for 18 months and have talked to Ash for about 2 weeks).

Recruits he adds to this years class are icing on the cake. The man has a month to work on building lasting relationships with high schoolers while many other schools had 1-2 year head starts. Whoever we get will be nice and all, but the true test of his recruiting starts next year with a fresh start.

The fact that some 'see little happening' is probably intentional - it is probably (and pretty clearly) not that there is little going on - but that there is little being revealed.

- it has been hinted that certain moves are close to being made official, but that some of the individuals involved have existing obligations -- and will be concluding said obligations before an announcement is made.

People keep comparing Shea taking the job and going on vacation to Ash. When Shea took the job there was no texting, email was not wide spread nor were cell phones. Internet use was in its infancy. He had zero connection to NJ whereas Ash has recruited here . Ash is not on vacation. Stop comparing this to what Shea did. It's not even close.

Durkin is here doing his thing at UMD. Ash is at Ohio State. Who is wrong or right here? I mean Herman did fine at Houston this year staying on until the championship last year, so it's not like it is impossible.

I think if you all hired Ash, you should trust his judgement, or you hired the wrong guy.
