Truth is, I don't know how good Mehringer could be with the "right" players. But, I know this much, the players we have now are not the best fit for his offense. Instead of pounding square pegs through the round holes, we need an OC that would best utilize the strengths and talents of the players already here.
I know that the recruiting side "dictates" that we show the system to the recruits in the hopes they buy in. And, it is best to install the system, so that ALL incoming players are exposed to it, and don't need to adapt along the way. But, I couldn't, at this point, disagree more.
We have been shutout badly four times, and I just don't know how we are supposed to improve without the ability to even MOVE THE BALL. The defense gets worn out from the constant three and outs, we have NO creativity with the ball, and the idea of throwing a pass is verboten. Our special teams need a lot of help.
It is my hope that ALL coaches are evaluated at the end of the year, and unfortunately, it would seem some should not be invited back. My expectations for this year were simple, I wanted to see this team get better between Game 1 and the end of the season. I certainly don't feel we are better today than we were in September.
