Another Power 5 Job Opens - Syracuse

I think a school has to be careful now when thinking of firing their coach. 20 jobs could be and the pickings could be slim.

This does affect Rutgers in a couple of ways:
1. if Flood stays and they hire a guy that can out-recruit Flood in NJ then we fall a rung lower recruiting wise
2. if Flood is fired, Cuse may be a better job then Rutgers.
- They are popular in NYC
- Their athletic dept is in a better financial position to pay coaches. Can easily pay $2.5 - 3 mil for a coach.
- As a private school they don't have to answer to the state on financial or other decisions. They can spend on
their athletic programs at a whim. They also can hire a coach that may have off the field issues where Rutgers has to worry about the PR in the press.

Disagree about their football team being popular in NYC.

Cuse is not a better job football job, IMHO (B1G vs ACC...in the middle of nowhere vs media capital of the world...etc, etc), but Cuse football is not nearly as popular as their basketball is, in NYC, let alone RU Football (tv ratings-wise). ,

I think as of now there have been 11 P5 openings including Cuse/ISU this weekend. I've said dating back to 2001 there have usually between 11-13 P5 openings with 17 being the high once and 4 being the low twice. Last couple years it was on the lower side with 7. I've thought 14 or so is possible this year. We're 3 short of that now

Minnesota has already hired their coach. Purdue has said Hazell is coming back.

Possibilities left? LSU/Georgian/UVA and then maybe some dominoes off a couple of the current openings. So it could be particularly high this year if everything fell into place but still if you decide to make a move just make it. Would you have predicted this amount of in season movement last year? Maybe it's better next year, maybe it's the same, maybe it's worse who knows. Then also who are the candidates left to choose from after they've been picked over this year by all the current openings. Don't let unpredictable what ifs dictate to you once you've done your due diligence and deliberation as to the course of action.

Rutgers admin had better get their heads screwed on now, otherwise Cuse will start taking our recruits. Frost and Kiffin particularly will destroy Flood in the recruiting trail.

Start taking our Recruits ??????
That reality has already begun.
In last year's 2015 Recruiting Class, 6 recruits choose Syracuse over Rutgers.
Will get much worse if Cuse hires the right coach and we are stuck in a Flood.

The pickings will be slimmer next year. It will be like having the 21th pick after the first 20 pick their coach. Didn't seem to bother the Syracuse AD. We too scared to make a decision?

Interesting that not many Syracuse fans actually called out that Schafer be fired on the Syracuse board. The AD made the decision that they had a loser and needed to get rid of him. We all know we have a loser but can not make the decision.

True 'dat! Like I've said in this thread: Golden, Schiano, Kiffen, could definitely cause us, in particular, problems due to recruiting efforts. Get another guy in here, maybe a different story, but it looks like ONLY Lane is in their sights, which is a good thing for RU, because I'm not so sure he'd go there. We'll see.
Golden would not have to buy new ties . . . .

Just another reason why we need to make a change. It should be announced a week from today at the latest. If you don't think they can cause us problems with the right coach you are too young to remember when they were good under Dick MacPherson. Isn't Randy Edsall a Cuse grad?

It would be interesting to read the SU board if they did hire Schiano, after all the bad mouthing they did about him when he was here.

Pretty sure we've been taking the better ones, and the ones where we already had better players chose Cuse. They are one of the teams with worse situations than we have.

But they won the National Championship in 1959 and put all those running backs in the NFL! So, doesn't that make that a better job? (rhetorical, of course)
Seriously, will always be glad SU fired Pasqualoni.
You can't spell SUCK without SU!

Lane Kiffen as a head coach is straight up pop corn time.
Syracuse still has a football team?

They do. If you watch the scroll during real games, you will see them getting blown out on the reg. Vince Lombardi wouldn't win in that shite hole now.

FYI fellas

According to the source, the university is highly considering keeping the main sports arena on campus and remodeling and renovating the Carrier Dome. From what we gather, the bidding process for the project is underway as we speak and could range in the upper hundred million dollar range with a projection between $400 and $500 million dollars. Syracuse, which has been considering moving the venue to a downtown location, seems to have cooled on that idea and is now looking towards retaining an on campus dome.

From what we have heard, the university is looking to make the Carrier Dome more modern and aesthetically pleasing from the outside, and one of the most modern facilities on the inside.

· The roof would look less like a big balloon and more like a solid, metal structure. Again, modeled perhaps after Lucas Oil Stadium, windows around the outside of the roof will allow natural sunlight to enter the stadium. The idea of having the roof retract is still on the table but to a much smaller scale.

All the AAC and Mac candidates will be taken this year so none will be available for 2 more years until they prove themselves again. Therefore only OC and DC that haven't been selected this year will be remaining for next year or HC that have been terminated.

That's just another reason to make the move if that's the conclusion you come to after due diligence. So far it isn't out of the norm in total number of openings and a lot of candidates will be taken so what will the pool of candidates look like compared to this year?

Pretty sure you are wrong, RU only had 5 recruits choose RU over Syracuse last year ( vs. 6 picking Cuse over RU). Of those 6 recruits , RB Strickland and LB Shepard have contributed for Cuse this season,
True they are in a bad situation like us BUT they are doing something about it, Fired their Coach.
Also, a Flood coached team would not have hung with Clemson and LSU into the 4th Qtr this season (see blowouts :Wisconsin, Michigan, OSU, Penn St).

I'm pretty sure we wanted Strickland at DB and already had Hicks and Martin...Clemson and LSU are not that good..over rated IMO....see MSU....Laviano wouldnt even look at them...plus Wazzou would have run it up on Cuse...

Would you want Orgeron at Rutgers?
No, I remember some brought him up in 2013. I didn't like him then despite the streak he went on at USC. I can't see what's changed since to make me shift my opinion. On the staff, if by some chance that was possible, for sure but as HC no. He's a great recruiter but that's all I can say about him and if you've seen my posts you know that's not a main selling point for me. Even as good as he is, is he going to out recruit our top competition in the conference? I'd doubt it. Better than Flood? Sure probably but not well enough to compete with our top conference competitors if he doesn't have the coaching chops.

Just like I say with Golden, coordinator choice would be very important. That's pretty much with the case with any CEO type coach whether it be Golden, Orgeron or whomever. That model in itself is not my favorite so that always put those guys on a rung lower in my book.
