I think a school has to be careful now when thinking of firing their coach. 20 jobs could be and the pickings could be slim.
This does affect Rutgers in a couple of ways:
1. if Flood stays and they hire a guy that can out-recruit Flood in NJ then we fall a rung lower recruiting wise
2. if Flood is fired, Cuse may be a better job then Rutgers.
- They are popular in NYC
- Their athletic dept is in a better financial position to pay coaches. Can easily pay $2.5 - 3 mil for a coach.
- As a private school they don't have to answer to the state on financial or other decisions. They can spend on
their athletic programs at a whim. They also can hire a coach that may have off the field issues where Rutgers has to worry about the PR in the press.

I think as of now there have been 11 P5 openings including Cuse/ISU this weekend. I've said dating back to 2001 there have usually between 11-13 P5 openings with 17 being the high once and 4 being the low twice. Last couple years it was on the lower side with 7. I've thought 14 or so is possible this year. We're 3 short of that nowI think a school has to be careful now when thinking of firing their coach. 20 jobs could be and the pickings could be slim.
only basketball. No one in NYC cares about Syracuse football.- They are popular in NYC
Rutgers admin had better get their heads screwed on now, otherwise Cuse will start taking our recruits. Frost and Kiffin particularly will destroy Flood in the recruiting trail.
The pickings will be slimmer next year. It will be like having the 21th pick after the first 20 pick their coach. Didn't seem to bother the Syracuse AD. We too scared to make a decision?I think a school has to be careful now when thinking of firing their coach. 20 jobs could be and the pickings could be slim.
Golden would not have to buy new ties . . . .True 'dat! Like I've said in this thread: Golden, Schiano, Kiffen, could definitely cause us, in particular, problems due to recruiting efforts. Get another guy in here, maybe a different story, but it looks like ONLY Lane is in their sights, which is a good thing for RU, because I'm not so sure he'd go there. We'll see.
Pretty sure we've been taking the better ones, and the ones where we already had better players chose Cuse. They are one of the teams with worse situations than we have.Start taking our Recruits ??????
That reality has already begun.
In last year's 2015 Recruiting Class, 6 recruits choose Syracuse over Rutgers.
Will get much worse if Cuse hires the right coach and we are stuck in a Flood.
Quick, someone email their AD to strongly encourage they hire Greg Robinson back!
Syracuse still has a football team? But cuse players loved Robinson
Syracuse still has a football team?
If they hired Schiano it would almost be worth it just to see the Cuse fans's heads explode.Listen I'm not happy about this, at all, but the only way I can see this "effecting" us in a "major" way is if they hire either Golden or Schiano.
All the AAC and Mac candidates will be taken this year so none will be available for 2 more years until they prove themselves again. Therefore only OC and DC that haven't been selected this year will be remaining for next year or HC that have been terminated.I think as of now there have been 11 P5 openings including Cuse/ISU this weekend. Minnesota has already hired their coach. Purdue has said Hazell is coming back.
Possibilities left? LSU/Georgian/UVA and then maybe some dominoes off a couple of the current openings. So it could be particularly high this year if everything fell into place but still if you decide to make a move just make it. Would you have predicted this amount of in season movement last year? Maybe it's better next year, maybe it's the same, maybe it's worse who knows. Then also who are the candidates left to choose from after they've been picked over this year by all the current openings. Don't let unpredictable what ifs dictate to you once you've done your due diligence and deliberation as to the course of action.
That's just another reason to make the move if that's the conclusion you come to after due diligence. So far it isn't out of the norm in total number of openings and a lot of candidates will be taken so what will the pool of candidates look like compared to this year? All the AAC and Mac candidates will be taken this year so none will be available for 2 more years until they prove themselves again. Therefore only OC and DC that haven't been selected this year will be remaining for next year or HC that have been terminated.
I saw that, I think he just wants a shot at any P5 job.Apparently Ed Orgeron enjoyed his 3 years as the Syracuse DL coach from 1995-1997 because he is interested in returning to Syracuse to be the head coach of the Orange.

I'm pretty sure we wanted Strickland at DB and already had Hicks and Martin...Clemson and LSU are not that good..over rated IMO....see MSU....Laviano wouldnt even look at them...plus Wazzou would have run it up on Cuse...Pretty sure you are wrong, RU only had 5 recruits choose RU over Syracuse last year ( vs. 6 picking Cuse over RU). Of those 6 recruits , RB Strickland and LB Shepard have contributed for Cuse this season,
True they are in a bad situation like us BUT they are doing something about it, Fired their Coach.
Also, a Flood coached team would not have hung with Clemson and LSU into the 4th Qtr this season (see blowouts :Wisconsin, Michigan, OSU, Penn St).

No, I remember some brought him up in 2013. I didn't like him then despite the streak he went on at USC. I can't see what's changed since to make me shift my opinion. On the staff, if by some chance that was possible, for sure but as HC no. He's a great recruiter but that's all I can say about him and if you've seen my posts you know that's not a main selling point for me. Even as good as he is, is he going to out recruit our top competition in the conference? I'd doubt it. Better than Flood? Sure probably but not well enough to compete with our top conference competitors if he doesn't have the coaching chops.Would you want Orgeron at Rutgers?
